Our dedicated Urban Forestry Team recently showcased their expertise at Denny Park during a Tree Work and Demo Day. Community members witnessed firsthand the essential maintenance our crew performs while gaining insight into our arboricultural practices. Through our Trees for Parks initiative, we’re committed to enhancing Seattle’s green spaces by planting and caring for trees, ensuring their health with proper mulching, strategic pruning, and regular watering. Together, we can cultivate a greener future for our city.

In case you missed it, this is HUGE. Excited to see nonfederal forests — and those who steward these lands — get the recognition they deserve and the resources ($$$) they need to do even more for climate. #Trees4Climate #WorkingForests #ClimateSmart #NaturalClimateSolutions
Just announced by the USDA Forest Service! More than $190 million in grants is now available to help private forest landowners make their forests more resilient to climate change. Private forest lands – which represent over 60% of the forests in the US – work hard every day to support the health and wellbeing of people and wildlife. These grants will help landowners create and restore healthy, climate-resilient forests on their lands while supercharging these forests’ abilities to be a natural climate solution and remove and hold carbon. American Forests applauds the Forest Service for its leadership in crafting this innovative grant opportunity and looks forward to continuing to work with the agency and public, private and Tribal landowners to advance climate-smart forestry practices on the ground. Excellent summary of a seminar series on “(Re)Considering Planted Forests for the 21st Century,” which was hosted by The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment and The Forests Dialogue in fall 2022. The series featured a wide range of experts, including our CSO Mark Wishnie who spoke about new opportunities for linking investment in commercial forestry with forest restoration (pp. 30-33). The series also included talks from speakers across academia, conservation nonprofits, the forest products industry, and Indigenous and forest-based communities, sharing various perspectives on the future of planted forests. It is well worth a read!

People love trees. They love individual trees…There's a feeling that they're somewhat sentient and they have longevity so we form an attachment to them. But forestry is never about cutting an individual tree. Just like thinning young carrots in your garden so that the remaining carrots grow well, when we cut trees as part of sound forest management it is not a cause of deforestation nor degradation, but about the collective health of all the trees in the woods. Logging has been a large part of the loss in LongLeaf Pine forests. Longleaf pine once dominated the coastal plain blanketing more than 90 million acres. Today there are just 5.2 million acres, up from an historical low of 3.2 million acres two decades ago.The encouragement of sustainable forestry practices for economic and environmental health are primary goals of TNC Mississippi and its conservation partners. Throughout the Southeast, a coordinated effort is underway to conserve and restore these rich and vital forests. Spanning nine states in the U.S. southeast, we’re working together to restore and manage longleaf pine forest from Texas to Virginia. https://lnkd.in/gRQMAQbY
