The unjust tariffs threatened by the American administration (in addition to the existing duties on softwood lumber) are a real risk to Canada’s forest sector and the broader economic relationship between the two countries. Our CEO Derek Nighbor shared thoughts with Policy Magazine. We need a National Forest Sector Strategy to mitigate the impact through 🏘️ building more homes using Canadian wood products; ⚡converting “wood waste” into biofuels for power; 📖 opening new international opportunities for Canada’s wood products; ✂️ and cutting red tape and regulatory barriers. On this International Day of Forests, let’s recognize the crucial role Canada’s forests play in global conservation efforts and the fight against climate change. Canada is home to 9% of the world’s forests; they support biodiversity and provide clean air & water. Sustainably managed forests are key to climate solutions. They can reduce wildfire risks, and provide renewable materials for housing and infrastructure, offering a responsible alternative to carbon-intensive materials. By prioritizing conservation, innovation, and sustainable practices, we can ensure forests continue to strengthen communities, economies, and ecosystems. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gCNyAkjv
