Yesterday was a stimulating day dedicated to orchestrating the expansion of the HITLAB Breakthrough Alliance Europe, aimed at propelling the growth of European digital health startups in the US and vice versa. Commencing with the outline of our ambitious 2024 strategy and transitioning into enriching dialogues with field experts from both sides of the Atlantic, the boundless prospects within the digital health domain became apparent. It was delightful to champion HITLAB's breakthrough alliance expansion in Europe, seizing a distinct opportunity to engage with pivotal collaborators and trailblazers from the US and European healthcare sectors. Reflecting on the recent 🇨🇭 SWISS BIOTECH DAY 2024, I'm filled with gratitude for the dynamic exchange of ideas and the vibrant energy that characterized the event. It was a pleasure to reconnect with many familiar faces and equally exciting to meet new ones, each bringing unique insights and passion to the discussions. Your deep insights and genuine enthusiasm for advancing biotech underscored the critical need for technical transparency and explainable expertise. 🧬 Comm(on)unity for Vitali(a)ity: My Journey with Vitalia ⏪ (Retrospective) Over the past month, I had the incredible opportunity to be part of a unique community called Vitalia.city. This experience was not just about being in a group but about creating a true "Comm(on)unity" focused on developing projects to enhance vitality and longevity. At Vitalia, I had the opportunity of working on an on-going project for health data ownership on a co-working place shared with passionate individuals, each bringing their unique perspectives and expertise for the longevity field. I got the opportunity to participate in a startup acceleration program led by Niklas Anzinger and Pedro "Henrich" Azevedo, focused on preparing and empowering the founders to present their biotech and deeptech solutions to investors, and get their shot to see their project getting funded. One of the highlights of my time at Vitalia was to learn about the variety of solutions to increase human lifespan and more importantly (for me) healthspan. Being part of Vitalia has reinforced the importance of community in driving meaningful change. Thanks for a couple of good days in Copenhagen at LSX Nordic! It has been a good opportunity to catch up with partners in the Danish life science innovation ecosystem and share our lessons and reflections on how Nordic innovators can make the most of opportunities in the US. A couple of insights from the conference: 💡 On nationalism and regionalism: Denmark stands out as one of the most dense and well-supported biotech hubs in Europe. However, to succeed globally, we need the Nordics as a region to drive excellence. 💡 It is easy and cheap to say, but much harder to do—we need patients, clinicians, and nurses to be more involved, and more meaningfully involved, in all stages of healthcare innovation. While it is easy to point fingers at others who should do more, we need to start by asking ourselves: how can we embody this in our work? 💡 In discussions on Nordic healthcare innovation, the US market is always a key consideration, either directly or in the background. It’s encouraging that across the Nordics, even early-stage ventures understand that to drive impact, business, and investment, they must develop products and business cases that work beyond the region. Making it across the Atlantic requires solid homework, serious field work, and high quality network.
