My name is Krystal Shaw. My name is Skye Song. My name is Matthew. Guys. My name is Ariana. I'm Anthony Hulslander. So my name is Amy. My name is Bethany Nicholson. College is not cheap, so I'm trying to save as much money as possible on my undergrad. I had never had the luck of getting any type of financial aid, any type of scholarship. It would really help me as like a student financially right now, especially going from Community College to right now a four year college that's a big like financial jump. This scholarship for me would mean that I wouldn't have to work during my first year at UMD. But my mom was someone who had always put like felt like she gave me my best foot forward. In terms of what I should think about, what I should value. And my mom did unfortunately pass away in March of this year. And so now it feels like that that really big safety net underneath me is like not there anymore. Knowing that so much of like the next year would be off of my shoulders would just be really, really great. What would you say if we were to tell you right now? You're one of our $10,000 winners for 2024? That would be freaking amazing. Really. 100%? No, really. So how would $10,000 help in your scholarship opportunity? Are you serious? Yes. Everyone out there is like waiting for like "What is this about?" So we're going to celebrate. You have officially been selected as one of our $10,000 scholarship winners this year. Thank you so much. Really. Yeah. I didn't expect this at all, But you have been selected as a winner for our scholarship this year. Oh my God. Seriously? I didn't have really have an acceptance speech ready. Thank you so much. Oh, my God. I appreciate it so much. That is you don't understand. That changes a lot. Mom! I Got it! Hi, I'm mom. Sofia's dad passed away two years ago. It completely changed what we thought would happen for college. She's worked so hard the last two years with Community College so that so that you know, it would be in reach, so the college would still be in reach. So this. This is amazing. Thank you so much. I really do appreciate it. Like I don't think you understand like the load of this is like taking off the people. I'm so glad I applied. It would feel my mom would convince me to apply and she convinced me to join SECU! and I think the team really like I if they're watching this, I hope they understand how big of impact and makes for me as a student and like my journey here. So I'm so honored.

Admissions officers have seen it all, so if you can offer something creative or a new spin on extracurriculars, you might garner some attention. If you're an underclassman, this would be a great time to either create a club or activity to stand out from the crowd of applicants. As you go through your extracurriculars and assess each with these ranking criteria, you'll begin to see how your ECs stack up. You might have been in track and field since you were a freshman, but if you never went for team captain, didn't break records, and didn't organize the fundraising activities, that might rank lower EC. Whereas the astronomy club you started your sophomore year for local middle schoolers that meets monthly would rank higher. Want help ranking your ECs?
