Global mining companies are facing multiple, overlapping calls from investors, lenders, governments, media, and civil society for greater public disclosure about the safety of tailings facilities. A new paper out today explores the topic and includes the results of a survey of 183 tailings professionals across the world to explore patterns of local-level information disclosure in mining. Tailings professionals are pivotal to the industry’s public disclosure practice because they generate much of the information stakeholders are seeking. #minewaste #safety #tailingsmanagement #research UQ Strategic Partnerships

💡 As we gear up for this years Responsible Raw Materials event, we have been reflecting on the lessons we took away from last years theme, "Criticality of Trust," which emphasized the indispensable role trust plays in advancing responsible practices within our sector. In any industry, effective communication serves as the bedrock of trust, particularly concerning stakeholder relationships. However, in the complex realm of mining, where there are a variety of stakeholders and groups coming together and technical concepts, acronyms, and industry-specific jargon abound, the clarity of communication becomes even more critical. 🗣️ 🚧 When mining professionals fail to articulate their ideas clearly, they run the risk of misinterpretation, misalignment of objectives, and even conflicts. These misunderstandings not only impede progress but also foster an environment of skepticism and suspicion. At Responsible Raw Materials, we are focused on bridging the gap between industry insiders and external stakeholders, fostering mutual understanding and trust. Last year's Responsible Raw Materials Conference theme of Trust serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative to prioritize clear communication in our industry. We look forward to this year’s conference, Critical Choices, Innovative models to de-risk and redesign responsible mineral value chains. 💻 Register for the free online conference 🔍 2024 Theme: Critical Choices 📅 Date: April 29-May 3 📍 Location: Online https://lnkd.in/eDjujdYe 🌐 Website: https://lnkd.in/evsB_FDV #RRM2024 #CriticalChoices #ResponsibleRawMaterials #ResponsibleMining #RiskManagement

An interesting and timely paper summarizing an extensive survey of Mining company attitudes (and reluctant communication) toward communities in mine waste management planning, disclosure and in response in the event of a mine tailings failure (disaster). The majority of mining companies are not prepared to, for example, include Indigenous communities in mine project or mine waste management decision making (or meaningful consultation).

Terra Metals | Thomas Line | Stockhead TV 📺 Market Talk | Investor Relations and Media Collaborations is an investor event series that brought together seven ASX-listed resource developers and producers for an afternoon of presentations on 6 May at Sydney’s Hubert Theatre Royale. 🗞️ Read the editorial feature here: https://lnkd.in/g9Gzw4Nm -- Hosted by Perth-based ResolveIR and Investability IR and in partnership with Australia's leading news website, covering emerging stories Stockhead , the one-day investor event showcased carefully selected, high growth companies at various levels of development in the resources sector. This week’s #MarketTalk event showcased seven companies that prove there’s still immense value to be unlocked on the ASX. -- Watch the interview with Terra Metals, Thomas Line and Stockhead TV 📺👇🏽 https://loom.ly/pYtAA3o -- Formerly known as GCX Metals, Terra Metals adopted its new name to reflect its pivot towards critical minerals with a focus specifically on the flagship Dante copper-PGE-gold-nickel project in WA’s West Musgrave region. Dante is surrounded by majors including one of the largest copper and nickel sulphide discoveries in recent times – BHP’s (ASX:BHP) $1.7bn, 390Mt Nebo-Babel nickel-copper-PGE project that is currently under construction. The project also happens to have geology similar to Chalice Mining’s (ASX:CHN) Julimar-Gonneville deposit as well as South Africa’s Bushveld region, the world’s largest source of PGEs with over 2 billion ounces of platinum, palladium and gold along with large base metal deposits and very large vanadium-titanium deposits. Thomas pointed out that both the Bushveld and Dante are large, layed entrusions which produce reefs that are often enriched in precious metals. Each layer within the layered intrusion can contain different enrichments in large deposits of different metals, though the most prominent are the precious metals, platinum, palladium and gold. -- Nara Kassam Dannika Warburton Evy Litopoulos s #stockstowatch #criticalminerals #batterymetals #resources #investing #asx #stocks #watchlist #TM1

The original U.S. Bureau of Mines was established on July 1, 1910, under the Department of the Interior. Its primary mission was to ensure the nation had adequate supplies of nonfuel minerals for national security and other needs. The Bureau’s work included research on the extraction, processing, use, and recycling of nonfuel mineral resources, while minimizing environmental impacts and protecting workers. It also collected and published statistical and economic information on all phases of nonfuel mineral resource development. However, in 1996, during a period of budget cuts, the USBM was closed down, facing significant backlash as critics argued that the nation was downsizing scientific research and funding. Both the American Exploration & Mining Association and the National Mining Association have announced plans to advocate for reviving and expanding the U.S. Bureau of Mines and BIOBY is 100% supportive of their efforts. Agencies like the United States Department of Defense and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) of Energy have been supporting various projects across the U.S. targeting critical minerals including Perpetua Resources's Stibnite Gold Project out of Idaho and Talon Metals Corp.'s proposed battery minerals processing facility in North Dakota. Reviving the bureau could offer a cohesive strategy where agencies are fully aligned on their critical minerals policy, covering permitting, research funding, and industry grants.
