Seniors are the most vulnerable group in our great Australian community. 70% of our seniors are asset rich, while the remaining ones have money and are targeted by scammers, which is on the rise. We are a nation with a 17% population that is aging. Our research shows that scammers are becoming more sophisticated, and now that AI is coming in, it will only worsen. Kick-Ass Seniors are setting up a national Helpline for seniors to reach out to for help, and most cases will receive first-responder help onsite by a cybersecurity tech expert. The result? A concerning lack of essential security measures across the board. Back in January 1999, an international coalition of hackers signed a statement condemning the decision by the hacker group Legion of the Underground to declare “war” against several governments: "declaring war against a country is the most irresponsible thing a hacker group can do. […] If hackers solicit recognition as paramilitary factions, then hacking in general will be seen as an act of war. Ergo, hackers will be viewed as legitimate targets of warring states.” A quarter century later, an unprecedented number of hacktivists can now be observed in every major conflict. The danger of damage and harm to people is real. Civilian hackers face significant risks and must be aware of the prohibitions and obligations to which they are legally bound once they enter an armed conflict.
