Did you know there’s a wealth of untapped information in dormant omics data depositories? Before starting large-scale omics studies, especially on human tissues, I highly recommend exploring existing datasets from reputable labs. These resources can save you months of work and thousands of dollars. In our recent ALS project with the Queensland Brain Institute Adam Walker Rebecca San Gil, we analysed a longitudinal proteomic map of the cortex from the cytoplasmic TDP-43 rNLS8 mouse model of ALS and FTLD. Instead of starting from scratch with human ALS brain profiling, we curated comprehensive transcriptome and proteome deposited data from leading labs. This led us to develop TDP-map, an open-access web tool for comparing pre-clinical study markers against human data. https://lnkd.in/gMJpxtvf. Omics analysis is the process of analyzing large data sets to extract meaningful information about biological molecules—genes, DNA, RNA, proteins, metabolites or more—with the goal of illuminating typical molecular pathways and deciphering where things go awry in disease.

🔬 I'm thrilled to announce that I've recently presented my Bachelor's Thesis on a topic close to my heart - Rare Non-coding Variants in Enhancer Regions Contribute to Bicuspid Aortic Valve Pathology. BAV, a genetic defect of the heart valve, presents significant challenges and complications in cardiovascular health. Despite its prevalence, the specific genetic variants contributing to BAV remain largely unidentified. In my study, I delved deep into the role of rare non-coding variants in the development of BAV. By analyzing the genomes, transcriptomes, and epigenomes of aortic endothelial cells from individuals with both BAV and TAV, I aimed to shed light on the genetic factors driving this condition. Excitingly, my research uncovered rare non-coding variants within enhancer regions of the genome specifically in BAV samples. These findings hold promise for understanding the underlying mechanisms of BAV pathogenesis. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the scientific community's understanding of BAV disease, and I'm excited to see how these findings can potentially lead to improved treatments and outcomes for patients. #Research #Science #Genetics #CardiovascularHealth #Healthcare

We're excited to announce a special issue titled "Towards a Comprehensive Understanding of Congenital Heart Disease: Unifying Single Cell Multiomics During Early Cardiac Development" with Guest Editors Dr. Richard Monaghan, Dr. Simon Williams, and Dr. Yingjuan Liu from the University of Manchester. This issue will focus on the advancements in multiomics technologies that have revolutionized our understanding of early heart development at the single-cell level. We are seeking contributions that delve into the genetic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and morphological changes in early cardiac development, particularly in mouse models. What am I doing on a Friday afternoon instead of calling it a day/week?... 🤓 I'm geeking out on this paper on aging and proteomics: https://lnkd.in/dnaDkcP3 🔎 At first I was fascinated by figure 1c here in the screenshot, and how the organs that "go" together kind of make sense... but also kind of not. Clearly, kidneys and lungs have their own special way of aging (which suggests these organs age from factors unrelated to the cardiometabolic ones more likely to affecting liver, heart and adipose tissue). 😍 Figure 3 also brings its load of exciting results for brain aging, going all the way to suggesting which cell types most likely contribute each protein of the signature. A great showcase of how to use plasma proteomics to study organ aging. #proteomics, #aging, #science.
