Ethan Penner and I demonstrate with a viral TikTok trend! - We want first-time attendees to know they don’t have to wear a suit or anything fancy to conferences… Even in a professional setting like this, many geoscientists wear jeans, flannels, or even hiking boots! Go with what’s comfortable and speaks volumes about who you are professionally and personally—For us, that’s dressing real groovy 😎 - Here are some tips we learned from attending IMAGE’23 that helped us better prepare for this year: 👞 Shoe comfort is SO important! Put gel inserts in everything and ladies, definitely go for a shorter, wider heel. Ethan opted for Blundstone boots that are a popular go-to for both men AND women geoscientists. 🌡️ Despite the event taking place in hot, humid Houston, the convention center is kept cool, so wearing long pants and even a blazer or cardigan is totally doable. The key is to layer! 👕 It’s so easy to keep it simple with a few staple items you can mix and match, like button downs or jeans that go with everything. No need to pack tons of extravagant items, like we both did last year… lesson learned! - I won’t tell you what a lot of people tell women, that “it’s not a fashion show” because it can be if you want it to!
