BREAKING! According to sources that chose to remain anonymous, on April 1st there will be a major announcement regarding "Aerodromo Mexiquense Doctor Jorge Jiménez Cantú" (AZP), located in Atizapán de Zaragoza on the outskirts of Mexico City. It is expected this geographically-challenged, little-known airfield will be rebuilt into a thriving commercial airport, thanks to ground-breaking technology applied -and also funded- elsewhere by military engineers.
If the above information is accurate, AZP is destined to become the fourth airport within the greater Mexico City metropolitan area, comprised today of MEX, NLU and TLC. While details are still sketchy, rumor is the airport will be developed as a regional airline passenger and cargo hub to capture NLU's traffic spill, in an effort to avoid the total extinction of this local aviation industry's pivotal sector in the largest consumer market in the country.
PS: It is also interesting to note this kind of news always appears on April Fool's Day✈️
