As part of the Shift Cycling Culture Climate Commitment, we have committed to monitor and reduce our Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 55% within 2030. One of the concrete actions we have taken to reach this goal was installing a new photovoltaic plant at our Italian headquarters, which supplies with clean energy almost 40 percent of our current average needs and allows to save an average of 1,169.75 tons of CO2 eq every year. Let’s accelerate towards a cleaner, greener future with every mile we travel! As businesses across the globe commit to ambitious net-zero targets, Sustainable Business Travel is a crucial piece of the puzzle. One of the most impactful ways Purpose Social Homes can reduce its carbon footprint in operations is by embracing Electric Vehicles for business travel. Using EVs has significantly reduced our carbon footprint and charging EVs with renewable energy resources further enhances our sustainability and demonstrates our commitment to Net Zero. Our recent report on Fossil vs. Electric Mileage shows that we have increased our Electric travel from 80% in 2022 to 96% in 2023-2024. Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just about reducing emissions, it’s about leading the change towards a sustainable future. By incorporating EVs into our business corporate plans, we are not just meeting our sustainability goals but also driving the change we want to see in the world. [ESG Knowledge] Mobility emissions mitigation - Individual efforts matter We’ve discussed that individuals and businesses are both contributing interdisciplinary transportation activities to the total emissions. The core, however, is still the way each person on this planet navigates their single action. 🌱 Here’s how you can make a tangible impact, starting from today: 1️⃣ Opt for greener means: Electric cars and public transit like buses just emit ⅓ and ⅛ as much CO2 as typical cars, respectively. 🚎 2️⃣ Integrate various occasions when using flights to travel or share vehicles: A simple yet powerful way to slash mobility emissions by three, five, or even more times. ✈️ 3️⃣ Choose biking or walking: This not only reduces emissions but also encourages healthier practices. It’s time to rethink and become more sustainable in every choice, including mobility. Rather than forcing ourselves to do something big, it’s about doing things differently. Start your personal green transition for a better version of yourself! 🔊 Follow us for more and don’t miss anything valuable for your green transition.

The Innovation Climate Challenge: Post #3 Innovating towards Net Zero in European Transport Emissions It isn't always obvious what we as users and consumers of our transport systems could do, or what impact that action may have. Here are some insights, suggestions and thoughts: Greater Public Transportation Use: As of 2023, major European cities see an average of 30-50% of daily commutes made via public transport (obviously from a Covid low). Doubling public transport usage can reduce urban transport emissions by up to 25%. Idea: Make public transport free and abundant at peak times (and back it up by making driving expensive with schemes like the London ULEZ): https://lnkd.in/eAusnVjg Cycling and Walking Infrastructure: In cities like Amsterdam, where 60% of trips are made by bike, emissions from urban transport are significantly lower than in car-dominated cities. Each kilometer cycled reduces emissions by approximately 250 grams of CO2. Did you know: If 20% of the population shifts one car journey to walking or cycling each week, it could save over 2 million tons of CO2 annually across Europe. Idea: Reward cycling or walking in the same way energy companies such as Octopus are rewarding reducing 'standard' usage (https://lnkd.in/exXstCmS) Reducing Air Travel: A 5% reduction in air travel in Europe could lead to a decrease in emissions by about 3.5 million tons of CO2 annually, considering the high emissions per passenger-kilometer of air travel. Idea: Subsidise stay-cation breaks, if you holiday in your country of residence instead of flying, get a % discount over the cost for those flying in. Renewable Energy in Transport: A city with 500 buses converting its fleet to electric powered by renewable energy would reduce emissions by up to 50,000 tons of CO2 annually. Summary of prior posts in the series: This series is aiming at making the climate challenge a bit more accessible to everyone. It can be super overwhelming. In my post #1 (https://shorturl.at/dyQR5) I shared the Top 5 contributing Sectors when it comes to greenhouse gases. Post #2 drilled in to the European Transport sector (https://shorturl.at/mLPTX). #climatechange #climateaction #climatechangesolutions #impact
