You do not need a Master's degree to apply to PhD programs in the US. Many of you have reached out to me with this exact question. Most* programs in the US do not require a Master's degree in order to apply and get admitted into PhD programs. From my experience, it is the norm to go straight from a Bachelor’s degree directly into a PhD program. That may not be the case in other parts of the world - this is specific to the US. I went from my Bachelor's degree straight into my PhD program, and you can do the same too. Check out the program website of the schools you are applying for eligibility for admission. Some programs may state something along those lines - To be eligible for admission to the Graduate School applicants must, before they are enrolled, hold a bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university. #phdwithseraya #phdstudent #gradstudent #gradschool #phd

Hi Seraya, thank you for sharing such resources. As an international myself, I will add few things based on my knowledge. To apply for PhD, you don’t need a Masters but four years of college before. I had a Bachelors degree from India which was a thee year program so I needed to do a masters to apply for PhD in the US.

Yes. You're right. But, not all schools accept that. In addition, you need a very competitive document to apply to direct PhD. Else, rejection.

The first time i learnt of US track of bachelor's degree to PhD I was astonished and same time applauded the academic track because it's something that isn't obtainable in my country. I hope someday a similar track will be recognized.

Thanks for sharing this insight! It's reassuring to know that many PhD programs in the US welcome applicants straight from undergraduate studies. It's essential for prospective students to check individual program requirements to ensure eligibility, but this definitely opens up opportunities for those eager to pursue advanced research straight out of their bachelor's degree.

But isn't that more difficult? The academic knowledge and a minor research experience provided by masters is always helpful. Besides it provides you with serious thoughts on whether to step into a PhD or look for another line of career.

Totally depends on the field of study in the US. Doctoral programs in public health and related fields often require an MS/MPH for admission or very sparingly admit candidates with only a bachelor’s.
