October is #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth and this week is Pfizer’s annual #PatientsinFocus, a global, week-long activation emphasizing our commitment to putting patients at the center of everything we do. To acknowledge both initiatives, watch this video in which members of Pfizer’s Butterfly Club – a network of Pfizer colleagues who are living with or have survived breast cancer – discuss the positive impact of breakthrough moments, from cutting-edge scientific advances, to finding strength and purpose in advocacy, to experiencing acts of kindness in unexpected place. Breakthroughs are crucial to patients living with cancer. I am #PfizerProud of our dedication to actively engaging with patients and advocates in every aspect of our work. Their insights are so important to help us deliver on our mission to deliver breakthroughs, no matter their form, each day. #PFEColleague #PiF #PatientCentricity #BreastCancer

The best chance of a cure is the first chance at a cure. “Studies have shown that systemic barriers to adequate cancer care result in worse outcomes for underserved minority groups, those lacking private insurance and those with a lower socioeconomic status,” shares Joseph Alvarnas, M.D., vice president for government affairs. This is why Alvarnas chooses to lead the way to ensure all patients have access to leading-edge cancer care. In 2021, under Alvarnas’ leadership, City of Hope partnered with a broad and diverse group of leading cancer organizations as part of the Cancer Care Is Different Coalition. The coalition is the engine behind the inspiration and passage of the California Cancer Care Equity Act (SB 987) which ensures people covered by Medi-Cal who receive a complex #cancer diagnosis have the choice to seek care at specialty cancer centers where they can receive leading-edge therapies and care often unavailable within community care settings. We applaud Alvarnas’ leadership and commitment to our patients, families and the communities who need us most. During this busy time of year, it’s important to take a minute to remember what we’re thankful for. At ACS CAN, we’re thankful for time. Time for grandparents to spend with their grandchildren. Time for holidays spent together. Time for priceless memories to be made. Time for milestones, like graduations, weddings and more. We want cancer patients and their families to have this time. Making new, innovative cancer screening tests available to more people could make this possible. Please send a message to your members of Congress urging them to pass the #MCEDAct, which would create a pathway for Medicare to cover new, groundbreaking early detection tests that can screen for dozens of cancers at the same time once they are FDA-approved and shown to have clinical benefit. Will you help us #FightCancerMakeTime? https://lnkd.in/e_cytt4f
