How do children learn to read? Research tells us the Five Components of Early Literacy + Reading serve as the building blocks for early literacy + a lifetime of learning. 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: The knowledge that words are made up of sounds. 2️⃣ 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀: The relationship between sounds and printed letters. 3️⃣ 𝗙𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: The ability to read accurately, easily and quickly. 4️⃣ 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘆: The number of new words children are exposed to. 5️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: When a child reads fluently and understands that words become ideas.
