The geography of arms production for Ukraine is influenced not only by the drastically increased defense purchases by Ukraine, which still remain relatively small for European defense companies. The geography of production is also affected by international military assistance to Ukraine, which truly requires large-scale production, and the accelerated market capitalization of companies that are creating weapons for Ukraine's victory. Productions are approaching the front lines and locations where weapons are used. To capitalize on the investment wave, it is important for Ukraine to be within the European discourse on renewal defense spending system. https://lnkd.in/d9ERnrxN

Surrendering Russians in Sumy Oblast There is nothing particularly significant about another group of Russians surrendering. However, it is very significant that this happened in Ukraine’s Sumy Oblast. Russia began its recent offensive in Kharkiv Oblast on 09 May and rumours have been spreading of a forthcoming offensive into Sumy Oblast, which is immediately to the northwest of Kharkiv. The capture of this Russian reconnaissance group could be an indication that the Russians are planning an imminent attack into the Sumy Oblast. https://lnkd.in/gFUv79MU #ukrainewar #OSINT

The Russian engineers of the Black Sea Fleet have posted about a new Ukrainian, drone-dropped, munition they have recovered. This is the RKG-1000 of the BPBPLA series of munitions. The fact that this belongs to a series of munitions suggests that we will see different sizes stencilled with BPBPLA in the future. The RKG-1000 designation indicates that this is item weighs 1,000 g and incorporates a shaped-charge. The use of the letters RKG (Ruchnaya Kumulyativnaya Granata), or ‘handheld shaped-charge grenade’ in English, suggests that this is seen as a successor to the famous Soviet-era RKG-3 HEAT hand grenade. Ukrainian forces have previously modified RKG-3 warheads for delivery by drone and given them the designation RKG-1600. The RKG-1000 appears to be a totally new munition, rather than a modified version of an existing one. It incorporates an aluminium body (75 mm in diameter) and a copper cone for the shaped charge. The grey colour of the explosive fill suggests that it is Soviet-era PVV-7, which is made up of RDX/Aluminium/wax (72/17/11). The RKG-1000 almost certainly uses an mechanical, impact-inertial, base fuze. https://lnkd.in/gTS9nkKd #ukrainewar #OSINT #EOD

I appeared on #Azerbaijan's #SVS TV to discuss the upcoming trilateral meeting between Secretary Blinken, PM Pashinyan, and Ursual von Der Leyen and the effort to form a common front against #Russia by #EU, #Armenia, and the US. I explain why that meeting is merely a start of the process and why this effort will take some time. I address #Russia's likely reaction, and the reasons for the fallout between Moscow and Yerevan; I discuss #Armenia's burdens, and the likely limitations of the relationship with Western partners; I talk about why this meeting is not likely to turn into a trilateral security pact; and I also discuss the opportunities for Baku in this matter. #Caucasus #SouthCaucasus #conflictresolution #conflictmanagement #eurasia #peacebuilding #peacemaking #military #security #defense #foreingpolicy #foreingaffairs #Europe #EuropeanUnion #diplomacy #geopolitics #politics #Ukraine

Preliminary Details of the Large Russian Air Attack – 29 December During the early hours of 29 December, Russia launched a wave of attacks against seven cities in Ukraine. The attacks involved the use of drones, and ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missiles. Preliminary reports indicate that 158 different weapons were used. The cities of Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv and Konotop were all hit. The first wave of attacks consisted of thirty-six Shahid drones, predominantly launched from the north and south-east. Then, at approximately 0300, eighteen Tu-95MS strategic bombers (NATO reporting name Bear-H) took off, launching their missiles at approximately 0600. At least 90 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 air-launched cruise missiles were used. At approximately 0500, from the Kursk direction, Russian Tu-22M3 bombers (NATO reporting name Backfire) launched eight Kh-22/Kh-32 cruise missiles towards targets in the central and northern regions of Ukraine. Again, at approximately 0500, the city of Kharkiv had fourteen ballistic missiles launched at it. These missiles were a mix of S-300/S-400/Iskander-M that were fired from the occupied Crimea, and the Kursk and Belgorod regions of the Russian Federation. At 0630 Russia launched five MiG-31K fighter jets (NATO reporting name Foxhound) from the Astrakhan region. Each of these fired a Kh-47M2, ‘Kinzhal’ missile, which has a range of 2,000 km. The Kinzhal missile is described as hypersonic. Russian Su-35 aircraft (NATO reporting name Flanker-E) launched fourteen Kh-31P anti-radar missiles and one Kh-59 cruise missile. Of the total of 158 weapons that were deployed, 114 were destroyed by various Ukrainian air-defence systems, meaning 44 got through. The overwhelming majority of the targets that were hit were civilian. https://t.me/BALUhub/7059 #ukrainewar
