🚨 Success in Operation Wrong Room: Focusing on the Right Targets in Human Trafficking 🚨 The recent "Operation Wrong Room," part of the national "Operation Coast to Coast," marks a significant stride in the right direction for anti-trafficking efforts across 26 states. This operation led to the arrest of 17 individuals in Georgia, with charges focused on pandering and pimping, rather than an outdated practice of penalizing potential victims. Highlighting the importance of targeting the demand side of trafficking, this initiative successfully seized over $255,000 from suspected traffickers and brought to light the networks operating within our communities. This approach aligns with best practices by prioritizing the accountability of buyers and traffickers, while ensuring that those exploited are offered support and resources, not incarceration. Such strategies are crucial for dismantling trafficking operations and providing survivors with pathways to recovery. 🔍 Insight for Professionals: Let’s champion and support operations that focus on disrupting the demand, holding perpetrators accountable, and safeguarding human dignity. For me, the most interesting development is the introduction of Serious Domestic Abuse Prevention Orders. According to this article, conditions could include "the requirement to inform police of any dating profiles an offender creates or uses, and would be imposed in situations where the person has been convicted of multiple domestic violence offences which carry a maximum penalty of seven years or more in jail." As always, the real issues will emerge only where the rubber hits the road - who will these applications be pursued against? What will be threshold be? Where will the resources to prosecute and determine these applications come from? https://lnkd.in/gDrErv4M

Our ground-breaking new research, The London Stalking Review, has highlighted how the Criminal Justice System is repeatedly failing those at risk. This deep dive research uses an established and diverse methodology, which has been adopted in previous E&I products. It draws on analysis of MPS data, interviews with stakeholders and victims, rapid evidence assessment, and deep coding of 400 stalking police crime reports. The scale of stalking and its impact makes clear that change must happen. HMICFRS has released the findings of its inspection into the effectiveness of the police and law enforcement bodies’ response to group-based child sexual exploitation today. NPCC Lead for Child Protection, Ian Critchley QPM, said: “Whilst we have seen many developments in policing’s approach to targeting and investigating group-based child sexual exploitation, we must continue to improve as highlighted in the HMICFRS report. “Through our work, we will continue to put victims at the centre of all we do and be relentless in our pursuit of offenders of these abhorrent crimes whenever and wherever they occur.” Click here to read more >> https://lnkd.in/ezV6hTF5
