Sailing vocabulary - Bayesian case study Learn your sailing terms! POV: I am a sailor, but I learned the terms in Spanish, then when I was at International University of Monaco I joined the sailing team at the Yacht Club de Monaco and I had to learn them in French! ... then when I started my work life in yachting, I had to learn all sailing in English and it got so confusing! I remember being in a meeting at Royal Huisman and asking what a Ketch is! 🤦♀️ Quite an embarrassing minute but as they say "as man that asks a question is a fool for a minute, the man who does not ask is a fool for life" As I said in the Yachting Masterclass, no question is a stupid question! I aim to share superyacht education to make you a better professional and help you thrive! 👀 Many of you may not be native English speakers, and maybe you find these vocabulary terms useful? Just coming to see live the Louis Vuiton America´s cup in Barcelona and thinking about this kind of competition comparing to daily life. You just see a boat here, with 8 people sailing. Really? There´s technology. A lot to make an AC75 fly 40-50 knots with just 10 knots wind. Yes: there´s no engine there. There´s a skilled team behind those 8 sailors supporting with tactics and logistics. You can't almost see them, it's a feeling once things change. There´s a common understanding of the target. Win the America´s cup. The oldest sailing trophy in the world. And each team competes for it. There´s motivation of the technical guys (the ones nobody sees) to work 24 hours non stop as soon as the boat falls from the crane and is smashed. However, nothing works without blind trust between all of them. Having Grant Dalton and Peter Burling just mentioning (almost grinsing) how good the guys are, and which miracles they can do is amazing. Those guys fixed a smashed carbon fiber boat within one day (and night). And the 8 guys performed the next regatta at full speed In my opinion, it´s the same in the industry and only few people really value and live those skills I mentioned above: For those living them, competing is a motivation to improve. For others, it´s just boring boats sailing. Anyhow, both worlds share the same: "There is no second"

This past weekend, 84 students from 10 universities across Norway competed fiercely in the Student National Championship, racing the same J/70 boats used in the Norwegian Sailing League—proudly sponsored by Höegh Autoliners.
