This week Sevenson Environmental participated in the 2024 NCSW Environmental Field Day at Royalton Ravine Park in Gasport, NY! The 300+ 3rd-5th graders had the opportunity to visit 30 different stations to learn about a variety of important environmental topics from the companies & agencies that participated. Brian Shanahan & Nicholas Tomkins discussed the various ways that Sevenson Environmental helps the environment by cleaning up contaminated sites all over the country and even some sites in our own WNY backyard. The kiddos loved seeing the pictures of our equipment and had some great questions for us. Some even took our business cards and said they want to one day work with us to help cleanup our country! Thank you to Katie Pfeifer and the Niagara County Soil and Water Conservation District for putting on this awesome event! #EnvironmentalEducation #FieldDay #EnvironmentalRemediation

🎉 The Piedmont Environmental Council reports that in 2023, 6,315 acres of land in Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties were permanently protected with 52 new conservation easements. The new easements bring the total acres conserved within this region to 446,096. While these nine counties represent PEC’s primary service area, the easements reflect the partnership of landowners in this region with not only PEC, but also the Virginia Outdoors Foundation, Albemarle Conservation Easement Authority, Clarke County Conservation Easement Authority, Land Trust of Virginia and other land trusts and conservation agencies. It’s not over yet! The North Stoneville development will ultimately be decided by the State Administrative Tribunal at a public hearing expected in 2025 but Minister Plibersek’s environmental approval means that 60,000 trees – breeding ground for black cockatoos, can be bulldozed in Perth's metro area. Mundaring Council’s position remains strongly opposed to SP34 North Stoneville supported by the WA Planning Commission refusals in both 2020 and 2023 because the plan does not comply with 4 State Planning Policies regarding environmental clearing and bushfire evacuation risk. Perth has the lowest tree canopy cover of any Australian capital city at just 16%. Between 2011 and 2020, Perth lost a quarter of its urban canopy, mainly due to the clearing of private land for development. As the Shire’s independent President, I’ll continue to advocate on behalf of our community to save these 60,000 trees that help to provide clean air for greater Perth and a home for our threatened and endangered flora and fauna. 🎥 Channel 7

#ICYMI: The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $325 million for 21 projects focused on environmental justice & climate resilience. These projects are the first to be allotted funds from the $2 billion Community Change Grant Program under the #InflationReductionAct – the largest US investment in environmental justice. These new projects will go to planting thousands of trees in Houston, training residents to install solar panels in Bakersfield, engaging historically underserved neighborhoods in park planning in the City of Cleveland, and more. Each grant is geared toward projects in historically disadvantaged communities that will boost climate resilience and provide greater investment. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ebSiWeiB

54 Hudson River municipalities have sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Regional Administrator to urge the EPA to take actions that would place the Hudson River #PCBs Superfund Site on a real path to recovery. #PCB contamination has turned the Hudson River into the country’s largest Superfund site – making it unsafe to consume the river’s fish, shutting down its fishing industry, and compromising its ecological health. For generations. The letter unites municipalities and members of the Friends of a Clean Hudson coalition – a collaboration led by #Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson, and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater – in urging #EPA to render a determination in its upcoming third five-year review that the Upper Hudson River PCB cleanup remedy is not protective of human health and the environment. The letter also calls on EPA to order a formal Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study for the Lower #Hudson, and demands that EPA adopt a cleanup remedy for the Upper #HudsonRiver floodplains. An effective cleanup of PCBs throughout the Hudson River is the only way to restore the River and the ecosystems that rely on it. We’re thrilled that the bipartisan Fix Our Forests Act has passed out of the House of Representatives in Congress, a major step toward fostering healthier forests and reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfire. The Fix Our Forests Act would 👇 🏁 Simplify and expedite environmental reviews for forest restoration projects 🤝 Promote federal, state, tribal, and local collaboration ✖️ Deter frivolous litigation that delays essential projects “With 80 million acres of forest and countless communities at risk of catastrophic wildfire, we need to rapidly accelerate forest restoration efforts before it’s too late,” said PERC CEO Brian Yablonski. “These fires jeopardize wildlife habitat, air and water purification, climate moderation, outdoor recreation, and local economies. By expanding Good Neighbor Authority, fixing the Cottonwood decision, and reducing disruptive litigation, the bipartisan Fix our Forests Act from Chairman Westerman (R-AK) and Congressman Peters (D-Calif) would help restore healthy forests and solve the wildfire crisis.” https://lnkd.in/ghdpa-4A
