Bayer and Valley partner ADM extend their regenerative agriculture collaboration in Europe 🌱👩🌾🇪🇺 🔍 Last year ADM and Bayer embarked on a feasibility study to evaluate the impact of regenerative agriculture practices in curbing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity and improving soil health across approximately 9,000 hectares of farmland. 📉The project showed that carbon emissions from those hectares relying on at least one regenerative agricultural practice were 15% lower than those of conventional farms and that reductions could be up to 40% for farmers comprehensively adopting regenerative agriculture practices. 👏 The programme will now be expanded into a broader range of crops such as corn, wheat and barley, and geographically across Eastern Europe. Farmers will be provided with financial and technical support to implement qualifying regenerative agriculture practices. [ 🌱 Regenerative Agriculture ] Bonduelle aims to become a recognized player in the deployment of regenerative agriculture, to better preserve resources, soils and biodiversity, while contributing to carbon storage. Our roadmap is based on the following key agronomic principles: - maintain or increase soil organic matter ; - minimize soil disturbance; - keep soil covered to limit erosion; - maximize crop and ecosystem diversity; - use resources and inputs sparingly; -offer training in regenerative agriculture. All these principles are described and measured by indicators to monitor the implementation of the associated practices. Our goal: 80% of farmers committed to regenerative agriculture by 2030 Today, 46% of our partner farmers are already committed to regenerative agriculture! 💥 This inclusive approach is essential to set our stakeholders in motion, both internally and externally, in a sustainable approach full of meaning! 💪 #regenerative #agriculture #agricultureregeneratrice

Exciting news from Europe as farmers are making strides in reducing carbon emissions through a new collaboration focused on Regenerative Agriculture! Recent assessments conducted as part of the partnership between Bayer and ADM in Poland have revealed that farms implementing regenerative practices have seen a 15% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional methods. In fact, it is estimated that by fully embracing regenerative agriculture techniques, farmers could potentially decrease their emissions by up to 40%. The key practices involved in this collaboration include minimum tillage, cover crops, companion crops, nutrient management, use of organic matter/manure, and crop rotation. Participating farmers will also receive financial incentives as part of the program. For more details on this exciting initiative, check out the attached article. ***Why are KPIs the Secret to a Successful Regenerative Agriculture Program?*** Defining and measuring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for regenerative agriculture is crucial for food and beverage companies trialing these practices because: 1) Accountability and Transparency: KPIs provide a clear, quantifiable way to track the progress and impact of regenerative agriculture initiatives. 2) Informed Decision-Making: Measuring specific KPIs enables companies to gather data to evaluate the effectiveness of their practices, allowing for informed decisions about which strategies to continue, modify, or abandon. 3) Improving Soil Health and Productivity: By tracking soil health indicators like organic matter content, companies can ensure their practices are leading to improved soil health and higher crop yields. 4) Environmental Impact: KPIs related to carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions, help companies understand and mitigate the broader environmental impact of their agricultural practices, supporting sustainability goals. The Yale Center for Business and the Environment released two reports, "Bridging the Regenerative Agriculture Financing Gap" and "Surf to Turf: Linking Regenerative Agriculture and Restorative Aquaculture in Coastal Foodscapes," [both attached below] which highlight the challenges of regenerative agriculture financing due to outdated models and cultural disconnects, proposing new solutions for investors and farmers to collaborate, and exploring the integration of restorative aquaculture to create sustainable coastal food systems. Congratulations to my friend Colin Custer and the Center For Business and The Environment at Yale for their hard work! This is just one incredible example of how academic institutions can provide meaningful research to inform a quicker transition to sustainable ag! #regenerativeagriculture #regenerativefarming #climate #news
