Managing Partner @DESIGNCEPT | Architecture & Interior Design Consultancy I Customised Services and Collaborations I
Absolutely aligned with the point Alhad Sir. 💯 Unfair practice of not paying interns by some architects and firms sets a wrong benchmark in the service industry. This practice encourages prospects and clients to negotiate on fees, assuming architects can get work done from interns for free. It has also come to light that some renowned retailers and companies refuse to pay advances or POs to consultants and vendors, expecting support until project completion and only paying after several follow-ups. This is like exploiting service providers under the guise of "project opportunities and more projects" Architects and interior designers taking opportunities without payments is unethical and should be avoided. Similarly, any user enjoying services without making necessary payments is unacceptable, unethical, and should not be entertained. Fair practice would help create a better working environment in the industry for future architects. Let's strive for #fairtreatment, #ethicalbehavior, and #professionalism in #architecture and #interiors.
Attention all architects and firms! It has come to light that some architects are still exploiting their interns under the guise of "learning opportunities." Recently, we learned about an " Pritzker " award-winning architect not paying their interns, and now we have heard about another architect asking interns to pay the company for the privilege of learning. This behavior is unacceptable and unethical. It is time for architects and firms to prioritize fair and just treatment of interns. Let's work together to create a better future for the next generation of architects. #fairtreatment #architecture #interns #ethicalbehavior

Architecture Students: Summer internships are being posted; here are five things I wish I had done during my search. ☀️ It's that time again – summer internship applications are opening up, and it's time to decide where you're going to spend those precious summer weeks. In architecture, a bad choice isn't necessarily going to set you back, but a good choice can help you leapfrog your career forward. 1️⃣ Treat this search like you are looking for a full-time job, not just a summer internship. If you do well and they like you, they may extend an opportunity to continue to work there while you are in school or after you graduate. 2️⃣ Given #1 above, be sure that you not only like the work that the firm is doing, but you also enjoy their company culture. 3️⃣ Be sure to prepare to interview potential employers as much as they interview you. Consider what you want to learn (realistically) within a summer, and make sure what they will have you doing as an intern will help you do that. 4️⃣ It's OK to ask, and you should ask - if you can reach out to others in the firm and have conversations with them about what it's like to work there. 5️⃣ Always ALWAYS follow up via email (or be a dork like me and write a handwritten card in the lobby to give to the front desk on your way out) and reiterate your interest in working for the firm. It leaves a positive impression. Bonus!!! ✨An Internship is also a GREAT time to pursue other potential career interests you may be interested in pursuing. There are a lot of different paths for those with an architecture background. Now, those summer internships. Who's ready to make their summer count? #architects #architecturestudents #summerinternships #businessoperations #archcareers _____________________ I'm Evelyn Lee, FAIA, NOMA I help architects: ⇒ Think Differently ⇒ Increase Productivity ⇒ Create Opportunities

I'm learning about: - Temporary works design - Wood construction techniques - Site management Thanks to my team for sharing their expertise and guiding me through this experience. #civilengineering #internship #construction #temporaryworks #woodconstruction #siteoffices #workersroom #storeroom #learninganddevelopment #Easyandperfectengineeringconstructionlimited

IT'S CO-OP AND INTERN SEASON IN THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY! In the next few weeks, firms are onboarding young engineering, surveying, architecture, science, and construction management students. Let's help these students realize what great opportunities there are in the construction industry and let's help each other's students out. Students: Take advantage of your time in the office and field and learn all you can. Talk to people in your own company outside the group you are working in. On the site, ask questions of the construction manager and their team, and take the opportunity to learn from the many great tradespeople this industry has. Sometimes the best lesson you can take away from an internship is what you DON'T want to do. Don't feel bad about it, but don't burn your bridges. The construction industry, while large, is simultaneously small. A positive attitude can go a long way, and your team leader can often introduce you to someone who may be able to get you a job in an area you ARE interested in. But if you don't show up to learn and be the best you can, your team leader is unlikely to offer an introduction. Stories about bad attitudes in the field can spread like wildfire and quickly earn you a reputation (deserved or undeserved). Full-time team members: Reach out to your co-ops and interns and let them know you are open to questions. Mentor your co-ops and interns- these are the folks who will someday join your firm - or will join a competitor or client- your attitude matters! Reach out to your clients and volunteer to talk to their co-ops and interns if they are interested in your area of expertise. Ask your clients to speak to your co-ops if their ultimate career aspiration is something other than what is available at your firm, and help your students plan for their next internship with a company that better aligns with their goals. Co-op and internship programs are mutually beneficial- take advantage of the opportunity! #smeusa #co-ops #interns #construction

Day 05/10 of "𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞" 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 : 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞? 𝐀𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 : Students often seek advice on when to start internships and what kind of experience is necessary to secure a job. The answer to this is that once you are in your second year of architecture and you have some what figured out what all the lines on the papers mean, you are ready for an internship. I can never stress enough the importance of working for a skilled architect who has mastered the art of architecture over the years, and yes even if its just getting him/her their morning coffee and nothing else, still do it. The effect of associating and surrounding yourself with people filled with knowledge and talent will give you compounding results. Here what you will get from interning : 1. Your ability to work on real life projects will increase. 2. You will get to learn the thought process of how an architect develops design concepts and solves problems. 3. Huge boost to your network with addition of people who actually hold importance in the field. 4. Your risk taking capability will boost. 5. You will get tons and tons of advice on how to get better at college as well as the real world. 6. You will have created a strong portfolio of real life projects once you go out searching for jobs Bonus : If you are a scatter brain , you will have a baseline for you to start developing your own style as an architect. Concluding, internships will teach you way more about architecture and life, than what you could learn in college. Go do as many internships as you can. Stay tuned for more advice, Comment below any question you have regarding architecture & Keep Growing ! 🤗 #archietcure #interships #archietctureinterships #archiinterships #archistudent #archilife #solvingarchitecture #architectureadvice #archiadvice
