𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐀𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐄𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐖𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 (𝐎𝐂𝐄𝐀𝐍)  Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN) is a new UK competitive grants programme launching on 5 February 2024. As part of the UK's £500 million Blue Planet Fund (BPF) Blue Planet Fund, OCEAN will run until 31 March 2029 and provide an investment of up to £60m to support innovative proposals from local coastal communities and organisations that aim to deliver marine protection and poverty reduction outcomes. Funding will be awarded to organisations through two separate grants pathways: Community Grants, with a maximum allocation of £250,000, will be targeted at small-scale, local, in-country organisations; whilst, Partnership Grants, between £250,000 and £3 million, will support organisations that can fund large-scale activities and scale-up effective solutions in partnership with local organisations. Projects must be implemented in ODA eligible countries to receive funding and the programme is particularly interested in receiving proposals from in-country organisations working with hard-to-reach coastal communities across the globe. In two years, the Belize Fund has: ✅ BZ $18 million total funds approved 💰 BZ $7.3 million total funds disbursed 🌊 14 projects funded 🏫 6 Government Agencies, 11 NGOs, 1 Academia, and 1 CBO funded 🌱 14 marine protected areas supported (527,268 ha) 👨👩👧👦 40 coastal communities reached 🪸 66 persons trained We've made great progress in our governance and institutional effectiveness and we will continue to make adjustments as we prioritize how we implement our fit-for-purpose grantmaking to be more inclusive. We plan to launch several new mechanisms to increase access by community organizations and stakeholder groups. Launching this fund has been my top priority since starting at SSEN Transmission . Like all these things, there are a large number of people across the business who have worked really hard to make this happen. This is very much the beginning - this round has £2m but we expect the value of our #Community Benefit Funds to grow to hundreds of £millions. Keeping our Country culture alive and strong looks like... 👉 Cultural fire techniques to reduce vegetation density and restore healthy ecosystems. 👉 Cultural camps to document and protect cultural sites such as ancient rock-art. 👉 Plant identification and the use of cultural fire to look after Country. First Nations community organisations are encouraged to apply in the latest round of Looking After Country grants program 🙌 Projects funded under the program have helped communities to care for Country and for Elders to pass important knowledge on to younger generations. Grants of up to $75,000 will be available for Indigenous Corporations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Councils, and other non-profit organisations with majority First Nations boards.
