Some good news in the anticipated #nationalinfrastructurepipeline published on Friday - £316bn and £234bn to be invested in energy and transport projects, repsectively, over the next 10-years. Whilst some longer term uncertainty remains on the specific projects involved during this window, this feels like a strong signal of intent from the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and an opportunity for the sector to boost confidence with investors and the public by delivering #sustainableinfrastructure, utilising #modernmethodsofconstruction https://lnkd.in/eVQCJcr7

In alignment with the National Infrastructure Strategy and the British Energy Security Strategy, the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has embarked on significant operational reforms to enhance the decision-making process for major infrastructure projects, particularly those falling under The Planning Act 2008. Congratulations to Infrastructure NSW on the launch of their Decarbonising Infrastructure Delivery policy paper and measurement guidance. These documents provide excellent guidance for other departments and governments on next steps to take to decarbonise infrastructure delivery, and applies to all NSW Government infrastructure delivery agencies. Crucially, the policy paper calls for quantification of upfront carbon in three project stages - in the business case, planning approval, and project completion. This is a critical aspect. In line with the Infrastructure Partnerships Australia's call to consider carbon in the business case, we must start to look at projects across 4 key metrics: time, cost, quality, and carbon. That means considering carbon from the very first decision point.
