I've noticed a new trend in the social-recruiting arena where a post is asking for candidates who "live and breathe" the product or service. Of the tens of thousands of companies out there, do we really think candidates are living and breathing yet another SaaS platform? Do we think candidates are living and breathing batteries? Floor tile? Glue? (Look, all of these are great, but doubtful that there are wide swaths of folks 'living and breathing' them...especially the glue example. That's just a terrible idea) Hiring folks - letting your ego tell you that every candidate should be passionate...'living and breathing'...your #7 best widget on the market...is so inauthentic. Here's what you should be looking for - people who are excited to learn more; passionate about the team they may get to join and grow with. "Living and breathing" new ways of viewing the world and how different businesses work through challenges. Recruit those people. But accept the reality that except for an incredibly small subsection of the market - candidates are not "living and breathing" your product/service.
