𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆, in 1817, the world’s first bicycle, the Laufmaschine (running machine in German), was invented by the German inventor Baron Karl von Drais. The bicycle got its name from the fact that it had no pedals, and one had to run to operate it. Drais managed to successfully complete a 14-kilometer test run, thus proving it to be a more viable option for commuting than a horse. In today’s world, where there is a dire need for sustainable alternatives to save the environment, bicycles have stood the test of time as the most reliable and green source of transportation. Bicycles offer a multitude of benefits, including: ☑ 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - Bicycles cause no carbon emissions, unlike fuel-powered vehicles, which are one of the key determinants of environmental pollution. ☑ 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 - Since very few resources are required for the production and maintenance of a bicycle, it has a negligible effect on the environment. ☑ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 - Using bicycles on a daily basis could facilitate minimizing traffic congestion, therefore enhancing the surrounding air quality. ☑ 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 - As no fuel is required to operate a bicycle and no regular maintenance is needed, one could save immense money-wise. ☑ 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Cycling is a form of physical activity that, when done regularly, can enhance the quality of life, thus reducing the risk of various chronic ailments, which further helps save hugely on healthcare costs. Being carbon-neutral in nature, cost-friendly, and the reason for a healthy lifestyle, cycling is a timeless mode of conveyance. With the constant worsening state of the environment, let’s unite to create a cycling infrastructure and peddle towards a cleaner and greener future. #sustainablecycling #cyclingcommunity #pedalforchange #cycle #bicycle #greentransport #sustainability #greentransportation #environmentallyfriendly #ecofriendly #netzero #zeroemission #gogreen #greentravel #ridegreen

Circularity is not achieved by PowerPoint and talkfests - of which there seem to be dozens… Rather, it relies on doing - specifically in investing in and developing new market categories. Revolve ReCYCLING is thrilled to now bring to market our vision for and version of an e-bike. We use a high quality pre-loved and refurbed pushbike; we configure it with a (fully warrantied) power train; we offer it at a highly competitive price. This approach sees the full re-use of an existing bike that would have gone to landfill; greater equity and accessibility to e-bikes for more people including motorists; the opportunity for riders to return the e-bike to us for further usages when it’s no longer wanted. Greater circularity on wheels. Well done to @Guido Verbist for developing this reuse solution.

A fleet of cargo bikes isn’t worth it? 🤔 Learn why it’s actually where the advantage of a cargo bike truly multiplies 🌟. One of our clients in Paris 🇫🇷 recently acquired a small fleet of Yakbikes, financed with the help of our partner SCOOTLIB FRANCE, showcasing the potential of this approach in one of the most demanding cities. 🏙️ Using a fleet doesn’t only multiply the usual advantages of using cargo bikes, like the massive reduction of operating costs or the more than 1.5 times higher efficiency compared to a van, but also offers unique advantages compared to a fleet of traditional vehicles. 🚐 The key advantage lies in the ease of management. Yakbikes can not only be equipped with GPS tracking, which is easier and cheaper to install than on traditional fleets, but being bikes, the roads available are far greater, and therefore, flexibility is increased. You can not only plan more efficient routes but also more easily reroute a cargo bike in response to the realities of urban logistics, like changing traffic conditions or new delivery requests. 🧭 📈 All that while reducing emissions and saving the environment. 🌍 💫 How do you see the impact of cargo bike fleets on urban logistics ? 💫 #Paris #Paris2024 #Cargobike #Cycling #Innovation #Swiss #SwissMade #Logistics #UrbanLogistics #LastMile #1000solutions #Solarimpulse

The Netherlands prides itself on its vibrant bicycle culture, but faces a shadowy challenge: bicycle theft. More than 700,000 bikes - 3%+ of all NL bikes - disappear each year, with daily thefts reaching alarming numbers in cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Despite the scale, few thefts are reported, leading to a vicious cycle of depleting police resources, escalating insurance costs and the threat of bicycles becoming uninsurable. Clearly, the current approach to bike security and bike recovery is unsustainable. As mid-March approaches, a new initiative is on the horizon to tackle this problem head-on. Stay tuned for a change that is desperately needed to preserve our beloved bicycle culture. #BIKEBAZE #bikesafety #empowerrides #safecycling #communitydriven #innovatetogether #nomoretheft #ridewithconfidence #protectyourride #missiondriven #launchingsoon #followourjourney #netherlands #fietsen #fietsendief #fietsdiefstal #elektrischefiets #community #biketheft #biketheftprotection #biketheftprevention #cycle #comingsoon #staytuned #rotterdam #dontmissout #followthejourney #bikelife #sustainableliving #innovation #ecofriendly #rotterdamlife #cycling #cyclingtech #bikesafety #safety #follow #trending #explore #startup City of Rotterdam Erasmus Enterprise Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship Dries Dederen

When I bought my bicycle, I was told that it would be carbon-neutral after a few hundred miles. Two years, several thousand miles, and a half dozen spreadsheets later, I'm sure that I will never offset the production emissions. In my latest article, I explore how a supposedly eco-conscious decision can still have unmitigable negative impacts and what we can do about it. https://lnkd.in/gkYBA3EF #cycling #bicycle #sustainability #zeroemissions #carbonfootprint

The global car industry is shifting toward electric vehicles (EVs), but addressing emissions requires more than just EVs. Rising 🚗 ownership worldwide threatens to erode the benefits of EV adoption. To achieve clean, green mobility, we need a mix of walking 🚶♀️ , 🚲 , and 🚌 🚉 alongside EVs. The two-wheel industry, including e-bikes and e-mopeds, is booming globally. However, outside Southeast Asia, with a few exceptions, the potential remains largely untapped. Safer cycling infrastructure is crucial for unlocking cycling’s potential and encouraging active transportation. Public adminisrations should prioritize cycling infrastructure to create a win-win situation for urban populations.

Ampcustech wishes all a Happy World Bicycle Day to all! What actually happens when you cycle more? Changing the way we travel can play a surprisingly big role in helping to protect the environment. Here are five ways that by cycling more you can help save our planet: 1) Reduce Airpollution: A decrease in car travel would mean a potential saving of approximately 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents. A huge win for cleaning up our air. Cycle more! 2) More Green spaces: If more people cycle, we’ll need more traffic-free spaces. And many of these will be green spaces. Areas with trees, plants and wildlife. 3)Reduce Noise Pollution: Cycling helps to reduce the number of motor vehicles using the roads, lowering congestion and the noise that comes from engines. Less noise from vehicles and idle traffic helps local wildlife to stay and thrive. 4)Reduce the need for deforestation: If more people chose to cycle instead of drive, there’d be a bigger case for keeping these green, cycle-friendly spaces alive. Long term, there’d also be less of a need for metal production to help build cars. The metals used in car production often need to be mined from the Earth – a process that often requires deforestation to work. Can you see how it’s all linked? 5)Reduce Global Warming: According to data from Cycling UK, just 6% of urban passenger miles are from cycling. However, it’s estimated that increasing this to 11% by 2030 and 14% by 2050 could cut CO₂ emissions from passenger transport by 7% and 11%, respectively. Cycling has been long-established as part of the solution for a low-carbon, greener future for the planet.
