A great example to avoid future graveyards of shared bikes! The City of Vannes ended Véloceo and found a buyer in Smovengo, known for operating Vélib service in Paris. What about standardizing bike sharing (bikes, batteries, IT etc) for smooth transitions. Implementing a rule for companies to allocate capital end-of-business to deal with material use like this could also be something. The Netherlands prides itself on its vibrant bicycle culture, but faces a shadowy challenge: bicycle theft. More than 700,000 bikes - 3%+ of all NL bikes - disappear each year, with daily thefts reaching alarming numbers in cities like Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Despite the scale, few thefts are reported, leading to a vicious cycle of depleting police resources, escalating insurance costs and the threat of bicycles becoming uninsurable. Clearly, the current approach to bike security and bike recovery is unsustainable. As mid-March approaches, a new initiative is on the horizon to tackle this problem head-on. My time at the New Mobility Congress in Łódź is finished. Time to go home. It was a good three days — they kept me busy! ➡️ I spoke about cycle logistics and how businesses are saving money and the climate by integrating e-cargo bikes I to their fleets. ➡️ I was on a panel about the huge potential of e-bikes and how it can provide people with a true sense of freedom. Hopefully next year Poland’s new e-bike incentive programme will be running. ➡️ I spoke about what cities can do to boost #cycling and to avoid the mistakes of the ‘new mobility solutions’ of the past (cars) and to be truly modern by giving people space to walk and cycle. There were a lot of e-cars, e-trucks and e-charging infrastructure on display. But there were also bikes: cargo bikes, e-bikes.
