Well, hold onto your samosas, because ONGC, India's oil giant, has finally started pumping oil from its own field next door, and the numbers are moo-ving! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐬: 👉 First oil from the KG-D5 block expected any day now! 👉 Production to ramp up quickly, reaching 45,000 barrels per day by 2025 (that's enough to fill 47 Olympic-sized swimming pools with oil every day!). 👉 Gas production also set to rise like a tandoori roti, hitting 10 million cubic meters per day next year! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 👉 ONGC has been criticized for years for their declining production and reliance on aging fields, becoming more of a milking cow than a cash cow for the government. 👉 This new production could reverse the decline and make them a financial powerhouse again, potentially filling the government's coffers with more green than a field of fresh mint. ⚠️ But cautious optimism is key. ONGC's debt is still massive (think Himalayas, not molehills), and they need to avoid milking the cow before it's fully grown. Liabilities of INR 2.60 lakh crore, higher than its market cap of INR 2.69 lakh crore (yikes, that's a tight squeeze!) 𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐖𝐚𝐢𝐭, 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞: ️👉 India still falls way short of domestic energy production targets. We're talking about missing the bullseye by kilometers, not millimeters. 👉 A huge chunk of potential blocks remain unexplored, like hidden treasure waiting to be found. 👉 Domestic gas demand is skyrocketing faster than a rocket fueled by chai, with gas prices up 380% in just 3 years! 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞: ONGC's new oil find is a big udder-ly step in the right direction for India's energy independence. But to truly tap into this potential, they need to: ⛏️ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, like a herd of hungry wildebeests searching for the tastiest grass. #ongc is one of the largest companies in the oil and gas space in India. Called one of the Maharatnas, it is one of the most ignored stocks in India. So what is so interesting about it and why mention about it now? ONGC is the largest producer of oil and natural gas in India. It is highly profitable and makes close to 10-16000 cr pat on a quarterly basis. Trading at 6 pe , it is extremely below it's long term median PE of 10. Available at book value, it's simple meaning is that it if tomorrow the company sells it's assets, you will recover your whole amount from it not considering the incremental revenues the company will generate. Another interesting fact to note is that ONGC recently discovered oil fields in Arabian sea which will further increase it's revenues and profitability. It has positive cash flows for the last 15 years and is available at very cheap prices. It is among the top 10 most profitable companies in India. In those early years, our focus was on discovering the reserves of oil and gas that would fuel India’s industrial revolution. A defining moment in this journey came on February 18th, 1974, when ONGC’s drilling rig, Sagar Samrat, first struck oil at Mumbai High. Spanning approximately 1,200 square kilometers, this vast and unique oil field became the largest ever discovered in India. We were driven by a sense of purpose, knowing that every barrel of oil we brought to the surface was a step towards self-reliance. Throughout our tenure in the energy sector, we have witnessed ONGC evolve - not just as an organization, but as a key part of India's success story. The Hazira Plant influences sectors ranging from fertilizers to power, petrochemicals to domestic supply. Its effects reach every part of India strengthening ONGC's position as a key contributor to the nation's industrial advancement. All these jewels in the crown marked the beginning of a new chapter where India no longer had to rely solely on foreign resources to fuel its ambitions.

Government of India targets 30% electric vehicles by 2030. As part of Paris agreement in 2015, India committed to reduce the emission intensity of its gross domestic product (GHG emissions per unit GDP) by 33% - 35% by 2030. In order to meet its global commitment and mitigate adverse impact of the automobiles (ballooning oil import expenses and increasing air pollution), the Government is keen to shift the narrative towards electric vehicles. India’s EV market is expected to expand at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 45.5% between 2022-2030, with the segment’s volumes set to cross annual sales of 16 Mn units by 2030. With battery costs declining faster than anticipated, EV economics become favorable as battery costs decline; the five-year TCO becomes favorable over any alternative in most markets. **Ratna Categories in the Indian Stock Market** The "Ratna" categories in the Indian stock market refer to the classification of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) based on their performance and financial stability. These categories provide operational freedom and decision-making power to state-run entities, allowing them to make swift and efficient decisions without frequent government intervention. The three main Ratna categories are:- Miniratna - Miniratna Category-I: These companies have a pre-tax profit of ₹30 crore or more in at least one of the three years and a positive net worth. They enjoy financial autonomy for investments up to ₹500 crore or their net worth, whichever is lower. - Example: IREDA (Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency) is a Mini Ratna (Category – I) Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Navratna - Navratna companies must have obtained an "Excellent" or "Very Good" MoU rating in three out of the last five years and have a composite score of 60 or more in six selected performance indicators. - Example: Some Navratna companies include ONGC, NTPC, BHEL, and SAIL. Maharatna - Maharatna companies must have an average annual turnover of more than ₹25,000 crore, average annual net worth of over ₹15,000 crore, and average annual net profit of over ₹5,000 crore in the last three years. - Example: Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), ONGC, NTPC, and Coal India are some of the Maharatna companies. These Ratna categories play a significant role in the growth and development of the Indian stock market, providing autonomy and financial stability to state-run enterprises.
