Witnessing the Tech Brunch come to fruition on the 27th was truly fulfilling. Organized by SisterSpeaks Global & Heels4Pads Foundation and Power Learn Project in collaboration with SCA Nairobi , and various women-led tech communities, this event gathered industry experts to empower women in the tech field and support one another. Catherine Muraga , our keynote speaker, highlighted an essential lesson: prioritize depth before breadth. Achieving deep expertise in your career ensures unparalleled competency, which establishes credibility. Breadth, or broadening your skills, will come as you specialize and excel in your chosen field. Depth takes time and dedication. Women have abundant opportunities and support to advance their careers. It’s important to take advantage of these opportunities and approach them with the confidence described by Mumbi N. in her 2024 motto: "carry the audacity of mediocre men." The speed mentorship sessions were a standout for me, where tech leaders shared invaluable insights. Joylynn Kirui , in particular, shared how she accidentally found herself in cybersecurity. While she was a software developer, her project was hacked, and through "YouTube University," she learned about cyber attacks and how to secure her sites. This transition teaches us that sometimes, setbacks can lead to new opportunities and career paths. Embracing unexpected challenges can open doors to areas we might not have considered before. Spending Saturday with such empowered women, each supporting and inspiring the other, was incredible. I eagerly look forward to lighting more candles and keeping the flame of progress burning bright.
