A4A Statement on Dutch Government’s Suspension of Phase I
Capacity Reductions at Schiphol Airport
WASHINGTON | November 14, 2023 – Airlines for America (A4A) applauds the Dutch
government’s decision to suspend Phase I of Schiphol Airport’s capacity reductions:
“Today’s announcement that the Dutch government will suspend their plan to reduce flights in
and out of Schiphol Airport for the Summer 2024 season is welcomed news. We are grateful to
the U.S. government, particularly the Department of Transportation for listening to the aviation
industry’s concerns and issuing a very strong order outlining the violations of the U.S.-EU Air
Transport Agreement. This order and subsequent government to government discussions held
this week with the Dutch and EU were instrumental to persuading the Dutch government to this
successful outcome.
“A4A remains committed to addressing both the needs of passengers and shippers while
continuing to focus on reaching aviation’s global climate goals, including reducing noise
pollution. U.S. airlines are continuously investing in more fuel-efficient aircraft and engines,
developing sustainable aviation fuel and implementing more efficient procedures – both in-
flight and on the ground.”

Reflecting on the 'Pareto-Nash Reversion Strategies' paper I shared recently, it's fascinating to consider the dynamics between dominant market players and new entrants, especially in the context of price strategies and regulatory oversight.
Today's discussion springs from a concise 7-slide presentation I've crafted, 'Indulging the Mile-High Club', which delves into the aviation industry's challenges with cartels and the intense scrutiny they face, notably in markets like China with strong competition in air travel.

Reports within the newsletter also cover general engineering concerns, ATC understanding, airport remote parking, unticking MORs, interpretation of rest periods, and fitness to fly.

We are accustomed to thinking that Europe is more socialist, while the US is more liberal. But the reality of certain industries contradicts this belief. For example, in the US, 99% of major airports are owned by the government – either the federal government, state governments, or municipalities (for example, John F. Kennedy International Airport is owned by the municipality of New York City). In Europe, the situation is the opposite – only 25% of airports are government-owned. In Russia, too, a significant portion of airports is owned by private businesses.
Major airports in the US remain in public ownership because they are recognized as natural monopolies and essential elements of the country's transportation infrastructure, ensuring national security. Moreover, airports in America are exempt from taxes, and the profits earned are reinvested in the development of the airports themselves. 🛫🏛️ #AirportOwnership#GovernmentOwnership#TransportationInfrastructure#NationalSecurity

Air Space at Doncaster Sheffield Airport
As we all know City of Doncaster Council have a 125 year lease for the airport site along with some development land along the perimeter fence (dsa04)
The Procurement Process is ongoing and very close to competition, There are 2 candidates for the position of operator who are finalising their business plans for submission to CDC who will make the choice this summer.
We have had a press release from 2Excel who have announced their full support for cdc and Dsa and who wish to move there operations back to Doncaster.
TUI UK have also indicated that they would like to return to DSA when operational
Since CDC announced the lease agreements, a significant number of enquiries have been made by businesses looking at the airport and surrounding development potential available.
The next obstacle we must have is the matter of the Airspace.
The secretary of state for transport called in the decision for the airspace some time ago stopping the Civil Aviation Authority from closing the airspace or dividing between other airports.
This was done to enable the process being carried out by CDC to reopen DSA. With the current elections ongoing the decision regarding DSA Airspace may have to wait until the election is complete. The ministers involved were contacted last week and Doncaster Council are in constant dialogue with the CAA.
We need to do our bit to encourage the CAA to make the decision we need where the airspace is reinstated as it was before the closure in November 2022, with no changes or operating restrictions.
In a previous post I asked if we could contact the CAA to ask for their cooperation and I provided a template if needed and the email address
I have now set up a Change dot org petition to encourage the CAA to make the right decision for DSA To enable a timely reopening.
See below, please click on the link to sign the petition, share it with everyone you know so we can use our voice to help and encourage whats needed.
Thanks @everyone

This week’s discussions at International Civil Aviation Organization ATRP show the wide range of issues on economic regulation of international air transport on which there is potential to make progress if we have the will to do so.
Two the airports in the Washington MSA make the rank in the The Wall Street Journal review of large and mid-size airports. IAD (#Dulles - 17), DCA (#Reagan -29). The three airports, including #BWI, that serve our region are invaluable to the local economy. The full story can be found at: https://lnkd.in/ePQWA4Tk#siteselection#economicdevelopment
Two great reads from the latest issue of Air Transport World: The Last Frontier – African aviation remains a promise still to be fulfilled, and Stans Awakening – Gulf-area majors and LCCs are expanding their CIS networks.
