It's been heart wrenching to sit back and watch an industry I so highly regarded for so long, well, crumble. 2020: in the midst of so much unknown, unprecedented amounts of job orders, bill rates of $150-$200+ per hour, leaders counted on recruiters, client managers and support staff to be all hands on deck. Working 24/7 brought on a whole new meaning. No one could keep up. Mass hirings: thousands of individuals jumped on the healthcare staffing train thinking this would be a place they would live in long term. We knew there would be an end in sight but never imagined it would transpire the way it has. I get it, its business... 2024: THOUSANDS have been laid off, left to pick up the pieces of their lives with little to no options. Why? I could go on and on but we will leave it at that...for now. That being said, Companies that are hiring for Customer Success, Account Management, Retention Managers, Customer facing roles or staffing outside of healthcare: PLEASE consider looking at individuals who have healthcare staffing backgrounds. I have been at my laptop reading this post over and over again debating on sharing it so publicly. It resonates so deeply that I feel like I have to. _______________________________________ This morning, I received a frantic phone call from a close friend and highly regarded businesswoman in the Omaha Metro. She relayed some pretty disturbing information and after a long conversation, I received approval and support to bring it to attention sans identifiable information. I have had the pleasure of knowing this woman for over a decade, both on a professional and personal level. Our professional relationship quickly developed into a highly regarded friendship based on mutual respect for one another. I and a number of friends, colleagues and acquaintances have utilized her services on numerous occasions. She has consistently displayed grace, empathy, and determined focus in all aspects of her life, especially her career. Her ability to handle challenging situations with poise and competence is commendable. She was notified that an individual is actively attempting to tarnish her professional reputation and livelihood in order to forego payment of her services. She, luckily, has a signed contract: She not only completed the tasks defined in their agreement but exceeded the terms determined (the individual received a larger pay out than anticipated.) An individual who has filed an official complaint to her board, that has now been escalated to lawyers and has potential to reach the courts. An individual who consistently assaulted her via private messages with explicit content. An individual has openly admitted to successful patronization, harassment, and demoralization of numerous individuals during previous contractual agreements in order to opt out of paying for services rendered. An individual who has successfully displayed misogynistic and supremacist behaviors with zero accountability. My heart hurts for my friend. My heart hurts for anyone else who has endured a situation similar whether it is work related or not. The courage to speak up and out is within us all. You matter. Shout from the rooftops, we will stand with you. xo, Shelby
