𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁! 📎 Get ready to revolutionize the fight against antimicrobial resistance with MaxImmun! 𝗪𝗵𝗼? 🇪🇺 The MaxImmun project brings together 6 partners from 3 European countries, uniting to combat antimicrobial resistance. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁? 🧬 MaxImmun is an innovative initiative aimed at tackling antimicrobial resistance by stimulating the immune response and enhancing the expression of natural antimicrobial peptides in humans, using molecules inspired by marine biodiversity. 𝗛𝗼𝘄? 🔬 The project utilizes novel immuno-modulatory molecules to induce therapeutic expression of host antimicrobial peptides, without triggering inflammation. Instead of directly targeting a pathogen with exogenous antibiotics, this innovative approach fosters a natural endogenous response within the human body. 𝗪𝗵𝘆? 🌍 Antimicrobial resistance is a global health threat, responsible for 1.27 million deaths worldwide in 2019. Lactobacillus iners is found in women with optimal and dysbiotic vaginal microbiota. Unlike other lactobacilli which contribute to maintaining a healthy environment by lowering the vaginal pH, L. iners produces relatively small amounts of lactic acid and can coexist with pathogenic bacteria, potentially facilitating conditions like bacterial vaginosis. Moreover, its resistance to metronidazole enables it to persist favouring a return to a dysbiotic state, even after antibiotic treatment. Understanding its complex interactions is crucial for advancing our knowledge of vaginal health and developing effective therapies. CCD stands as a critical global health concern, acknowledged as a priority by healthcare experts. A notable disparity in public awareness and funding support for research in this area has led to a lack of attention and resources, hampering advancements in understanding the mechanisms, immunopathogenesis, risk factors, and clinical evolution of CCD. A comprehensive understanding of CCD is essential for the development of targeted therapeutics aimed at mitigating its global societal and economic impact. Increasing awareness among the public, government, and non-governmental organisations is crucial to gaining the necessary support for more research focused on combating the challenges posed by CCD

This important event marked the end of JANE-1 and the transition to the new Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer (JANE-2). As leader, together with my colleague João Macedo from the Centro de Oncologia dos Açores, of the task on "Health Policies" of JANE-2's Network of Expertise (NoE) on Personalised Primary and Secondary Cancer Prevention, I find it particularly important and relevant to get the message out to the political stakeholders. The NoE on Personalised Primary and Secondary Cancer prevention will be comitted to "advancing individualised strategies to prevent disease by integrating genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors into healthcare approaches". #HealthUnion #EUCancerPlan #EUBeatingCancerPlan #cancer #oncology JANE- EU Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto Centro de Oncologia dos Açores Direção-Geral da Saúde RISE - Health Research Network CraNE Join Action
The Final Meeting of the Joint Action on Networks of Expertise (JANE) was successfully concluded in European Parliament on September 25th with the participation of more than 100 project members. We discussed the progress that has been made in shaping the seven NoEs and the challenges regarding the synergies with other networks. NoEs are an attempt to establish a new kind of functional networks and their contribution in enlarging networking is of great importance for European health care and policy. JANE has envisaged these NoEs; JANE-2 will meet the challenge to build them! #HealthUnion #EU4Health #EUCancerPlan EU Health and Food Safety European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) #cancer #healthpolicy
