TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH! Electrical Safety Specialist, Management Consultant - helping employers take control of electrical hazard management with validated residual risk at TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc.
TAKE CONTROL of ARC FLASH TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc. Electrical Safety Bulletins Electrical Safety Bulletins (ESB) that can be downloaded and used as reference documents with an employer's Electrical Safety Program. In the hierarchy or risk control methods documentation is a lower order risk control method, but critically important to achieving and confirming an expected residual risk level and positively influencing the likelihood of occurrence. I find that in many cases there is limited to no documentation related to electrical equipment re-energization. For planned maintenance on low or high voltage electrical equipment an Electrically Safe Work Condition would be established. It is critical that before re-energizing the Person-in-Charge (PIC) complete a detailed inspection that may also be validated by an additional Qualified Electrical Worker Low or High Voltage. The attached Electrical Safety Bulletin includes a simple Pre-Energization Checklist that needs to be included in an Energized Electrical Job Safety Planning (EEJSP) form and utilized before electrical equipment is re-energized. If you review the table and believe additional questions should be added please add a comment to this post. The TW Becker Electrical Safety Consulting Inc. ESBs will also be posted on the company website. If you have any questions or comments please email me at terry.becker@twbesc.ca. If information changes related to the subject of the Electrical Safety Bulletin I will repost the updated version. #shock #arcflash #maintenance #70E #z462 #oshacompliance #osh

🔋 Mastering Battery Room Safety: Key Definitions and Standards 🔋 In the realm of electrical safety, understanding the intricacies of stationary storage batteries is crucial. Whether you're an engineer, safety officer, or technician, being well-versed in the relevant definitions and standards can make all the difference. Here's what you need to know: Key Definitions: - Authorized Personnel: Those designated to handle battery-related duties on-site. - Battery: More than just cells—it’s a system capable of storing and returning electrical energy. - Battery Room: A dedicated space for batteries, without additional protective enclosures. - Electrolyte: The medium facilitating ion transport between a cell’s electrodes. - Nominal Voltage: The assigned voltage class for easy identification. - Valve-Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Cell: A lead-acid cell designed to recombine oxygen internally, reducing hydrogen gas evolution. - Vented Cell: A cell allowing gases to escape freely, also known as a “flooded cell.” Standards to Follow: To ensure safety, familiarize yourself with essential standards like NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), OSHA 29 CFR 1910.305(j)(7), and IEEE 450 (Maintenance & Testing of Lead-Acid Batteries). These documents are invaluable for safe installation, maintenance, and operation of battery systems. Prospective Short-Circuit Current: Understanding this fault current helps in designing robust protection systems. Remember, some batteries come with internal management devices to limit these currents. Staying updated on these definitions and standards is key to maintaining a safe and compliant work environment. Let’s continue to prioritize safety in every aspect of our work. Stay informed, stay safe. 💡 #ElectricalSafety #BatterySafety #IndustrialSafety #NFPA #IEEE #OSHA #BatteryRooms #ElectricalEngineering

Electrical Reliability Professional | I help facilities EXECUTE electrical infrared programs through effective training and professional services. Ready to get started? Message me.
Feeling behind on maintenance? Here's how to take action on electrical maintenance tasks. 👇 Let's get to it. 1. Create a task list Create a list of all the electrical maintenance tasks that need to be done, no matter how small they may seem. This can help you see the full scope of the work that needs to be done and can make it feel more manageable. 2. Set a deadline for completion Without a set deadline or timeframe, it can be easy to put off a task indefinitely. Set a realistic deadline for completing the task and hold yourself accountable to it. If you can’t complete the task in 15 minute increments, it’s too big. Break it down into smaller chunks. 3. Consider hiring a professional If the maintenance tasks feel overwhelming because you lack expertise to complete them safely, consider hiring an electrical professional. You want to build relationships with professionals that execute on electrical maintenance. They can teach you how to do it or do it for you. Whatever you do, don’t get stuck not starting. - Create a task list - Set a deadline - Hire a pro Get after it. _____ Enjoy this?
