Actually told to me a few years ago. Please think on this: your team "beat" other teams at a certain competition on a certain day and time. You had so much time and certain equipment with which to work. Most likely, not all teams were there. Winning is fun and a great achievement, but had anything in that short list above changed, the outcome might have been very different. Competition matters because it's about being better than you were yesterday. Your team is different - not necessarily better - than other teams. Its not about "beating" or scoring better than others, especially since most every judge out there is only reacting in a "like/dislike" thought process, which is completely normal! Others may not have facilities to practice or maybe their team can only meet twice a week for a total of three hours. While your team practices 10 hours each week. Do the best you can with what you have, that's all anyone can ask. If you are not doing your best all the time, you have no one else to blame. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! For service members and potential recruits, these daunting numbers and harsh realities for their military spouses make the armed forces a less desirable career choice. Barriers to readiness for all military members and DoD civilians are a national security imperative. Why you may ask? Because as the U.S. military shifts its focus to integrated deterrence and Great Power Competition, we must ensure all military members and DoD civilians are equipped to perform to their fullest potential free of distractions that shift their focus away from the mission. This is how we combat our pacing threats. We must leverage the strategic advantage we have over all our adversaries: our all volunteer force. One of the most diverse and lethal forces in the world. Our most powerful weapon system. To not do so would be irresponsible and reckless. We have utilized our internal talent for decades, finding ways to leverage diversity throughout our force for a strategic advantage. A perfect example is the Cultural Support Teams (CSTs) used during the War on Terror to gather valuable intel from Afghan women that men could not because of the cultural barriers and stigma in place. This panel did a fantastic job highlighting why our diversity is a strategic advantage and why diversity means a whole lot more than just what you look like. I'm positive there's a better way to render honors and pay tribute to a retiring shipmate @ntag_red_river @red_river_pao How on earth could anyone in their right mind think that twisting off the top half of the flagstaffs and only uding them to present the colors would be even remotely acceptable. This was sent to me with a question about short flagstaffs. Depending on the situation there are different staff lengths and different flag sizes to fit displays, but a Navy color guard doesn't have flagstaff options, there's only one type, ❌you used generic, civilian office static display only flagstaffs. ❌One length, 9'6". ❌The team got the Carry technique incorrect. ❌You have fringe on the national ❌along with a gold cord and tassels. No one bothered to ensure the team was ready to render honors by looking at MCO 5060.20 and NTP 13B. It's incredible that someone would think this is acceptable for a ceremony and to record it and then post it. 🔆Education is 🔑! . 🔹Read your manuals! An armed with exhibition platoon commander can be armed with a rifle, which gives the commander the ability to blend in really well with the team at times (or all the time) and pull back to a commander position when needed. In contrast, a commander armed with a saber (spelled like this in English, when a sabre is associated associated with dance, it's spelled like that) cannot easily blend with the team, especially since spinning a real saber is somewhat dangerous (which is why a marching band color guard sabre needs to be authorized starting yesterday - much safer). What about touching the blade? Is it frowned upon? By some judges, probably. Why? Because they bring their bias with them onto the drill area and don't fully appreciate Scholastic Exhibition Drill. Some judges cannot get past anything outside of the service drill teams. That class of exhibition drill is Ceremonial Exhibition Drill. Both classes are exhibition drill, both have many of the qualities that the public would expect, but the difference is where the teams originate. The service drill teams could never perform some of the moves scholastic teams perform because the style could possibly bring discredit on the unit. Armed with a saber? Touch the blade! Be creative.
