This morning, we carved out time to do what we love most: celebrate. Shinola is built on the employees who keep our stores, factory, design studio, logistics, and office operating at full speed. We honored some of the longest-tenured of those people with a gift to commemorate 10 years of working together. This is an important group among the many who simultaneously fight fires and puts smiles on countless customer faces every day. First in. Last out. They're the ones that presidents have asked to meet when visiting #Detroit. Every Shinola product carries their fingerprints. And they are a reminder that a brand isn't what a company sells -- it's the people behind those products. In the words of our founder (which one of our 10-years overhead in an elevator once upon a time) "Is this the best f-in company, or what?" It is.

Word on the street is a Shinola Hotel is coming to #Indianapolis, sticking to its Midwest thematic (we wrote recently about its flagship #Detroit property; see below). Shinola has been one of the rare retail-first companies to segue effectively into the hospitality space. RH, née Restoration Hardware, has a 10-room hotel in New York, though it's website points out that "This is not a hotel." You've got Armani Hotel Dubai and Bulgari Hotel Group. There are others I surely missed. The next iteration of a Shinola hotel is still in the early stages but is being developed by Boxcar Development, owned by Herb Simon, who also owns the Indiana Pacers, as part of a multi-use development that could include a large music venue operated by Live Nation Entertainment. Sage Hospitality Group, which manages the Detroit Shinola, has been tapped to do the same in Indianapolis. Full transparency: I own a Shinola leather briefcase and for Mother's Day, some years ago, I purchased a Shinola watch for my mom.

Last night, I attended the Shinola launch party for the Mooncraft Monster: Apollo 11 Limited Edition Watch. An evening filled with music, conversations, and exquisite timepieces. Hearing Greg Verras, the Director of Watch Design, share the inspiration behind this watch and its ties to the Apollo mission & Detroit was truly enlightening. Brands with a compelling narrative always captivate me, and this watch certainly has a remarkable story to tell. The Mooncraft Monster stands as Detroit's tribute to the historic lunar mission and the dedicated workforce behind it. Limited to just 500 pieces, this timepiece, with its titanium case, blue aluminum bezel, and custom manual-wind chronograph movement, exemplifies American design and craftsmanship at its finest.
