What do you want audiences to feel when a project is complete? What do you want them to tell others about what you’ve created? That’s what Advent asked the PGA of America during our brainstorming sessions for branding and experiences in their new headquarters in Frisco, Texas. We used a variety of exercises to get at the core of those perceptions, but one of my favorites is one called Headlines. I got the idea from Warren Berger, author of "A More Beautiful Question." In a podcast with IDEO, he said he asks clients to write down the headlines they’d like to see about their work. We asked the team from the PGA to put pen to paper to write their dream headlines about their ribbon-cutting. One of the headlines read: “PGA Solidifies the Sports Capital of the World.” Fast forward several months when the new Home of Golf opened in 2022. The headline in Sports Business Journal was: “A Laboratory for the Game: The PGA of America’s new headquarters in the growing sports mecca of Frisco, Texas, provides a grand vision for golf.” I love this exercise because it encourages our partners to state their vision in a succinct, eye-grabbing way focused upon their audiences. Some headlines are spot on. Some are off the wall. Either way, they gave us ideas to explore and a direction to follow. Check out Advent’s work with the PGA of America. This week, Charlotte Tilbury announced a sponsorship deal with @F1 Academy; a female-only racing series designed to develop and prepare drivers for higher levels of competition. Why is this BIG news? If we look at the world of F1, it's fair to say we'll likely picture a male in in the driver's seat. So it's really no surprise that, traditionally, sponsorships match that audience...until now! CT is the first beauty brand and the first female-founded brand to sponsor an element of F1. With the support, and therefore media coverage, of female sports rising, this is a very clever move by CT. Pair that with the popular 'Drive to Survive' on Netflix and you can see why this partnership, which may seem against the grain at first glance, makes perfect sense. This powerful partnership will be speeding into view on the track with the 'Charlotte Tilbury operated by Rodin Motorsport' car; which no doubt will become known as the Hot Lips car with the brand's famous icon taking centre stage. CT's trademark 'make up your destiny' couldn't be a better match for this change-making partnership. I know, along with many others, I'll be rooting for Lola Lovinfosse as she looks to continue her progression. This beautiful exhibition of marketing has single-handily made me: A) Interested in F1 and the women within the sport - hello new fans. B) Order yet another bottle of their Flawless Filter IYKYK - brand loyalty strengthened. Hats off to CT and the F1 Team for this one. There are several magical and themed races throughout the year that are an absolute hit with the public. Runners from all over the world participate in these events and take the opportunity to give their families a period of rest and fun. As I said before, I worked at one of these events and it was really impressive! The organization and attention to detail to transform a simple sporting event into an unbelievable and indescribable experience.
