Listening to @nikhilkamathcio 's wtf podcast on brand building, the one thing that I could pick up on was how the marketing online has evolved from "post 5 times a day" to "figure out what your audience want to see". It was always about smart placement and smart design, but figuring the right approach, hooks for your video, seeing which works better kind of marketing mindset is at an all time high right now. And it is much appreciated! Creating the right campaigns, digging the deepest to see how best to push the brand organically and capturing people's attention without skyrocketing the ad budget will always be the great asset to the marketeer! On the most recent episode of Inside Marketing I was thrilled to finally get to speak with the great Adam Morgan. Adam has made a profound contribution to our industry and his work just always seems to hit the mark. We spoke about a lot of things, It's hard for me to believe that Eating The Big Fish was published 25 years ago, back then the idea of challenger brands was new and Adam's seminal work was a catalyst for a new wave of thinking about marketing and brands. many businesses and careers have subsequently been launched on the concept of challenger brands. The book is as relevant today as it was back then. We spoke about challenger brand behaviour in a new digital world, we spoke about why constraints can be a good thing, and the idea of embracing "can/if" thinking when facing constraints. We also touched on his latest project, "Cost of Dull", which he's been working on alongside Peter Field.
