TotalEnergies Awards Wood $46M Contract for Gas Growth Integrated Project in Iraq 🌍🔋 TotalEnergies has awarded Wood a $46 million contract for the first phase of the Gas Growth Integrated Project in southern Iraq. This three-year contract covers purchasing, construction, commissioning, and front-end engineering design (FEED). 🚀 Project Highlights: • 1GW Solar Power Plant: Building a solar power plant with a capacity of 1 gigawatt to boost renewable energy. ☀️ • Seawater Processing Facility: Supporting the region’s industrial water needs. 🌊 • Gas Recovery: Capturing flared gas to power production plants, reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. 🌱 Environmental & Economic Impact: Shaun Dewar, SVP of Operations for the Middle East and Africa at Wood, emphasized, “This project will improve environmental sustainability through emissions reduction efforts.” 🌿 Wood is also committed to investing in local employment and skills development in the Basra region. 👷♂️👷♀️ Job Creation & Local Investment: Wood’s teams in Basra and Dubai will execute the contract, creating 100 additional jobs. Currently, Wood employs around 1,300 staff members in Iraq and the UAE. Adaptability: Navigating Diverse Project Requirements 🦺My journey in the geospatial field has been marked by adaptability, underscored by two distinct project experiences that demanded different facets of management and problem-solving. 1/ In my initial role, I was assigned to an Oil & Gas project 🏗️where the client had meticulously outlined every detail, from the project study to design deliverables. In this scenario, my primary responsibilities revolved around managing time, conducting surveys, data preparation for setting out, team management, reporting, and adhering to the client's stringent regulations. 2/ Upon transitioning to a new project with a different client and a shift in nature to urban construction 🏘️, I encountered a contrasting scenario. Kent Wins 900 Mil USD Projects Kent, an engineering firm based in Dubai, has reported an excellent first half of 2023, announcing some key international project wins, bringing over $900 million in new contracts to the business, including growth on existing contracts. The company recently ranked as one of the top contractors on Top 25 EPC Contractors. The company’s H1 awards soared to over $900 million, putting it on track to surpass last year’s record-breaking order book. Kent attributed its success to increasing activity in key geographical markets and across the energy transition spectrum. Some of the highlights include: Several sizable Project Management Consultancy (PMC) contracts from an existing framework agreement with a major national energy company in the Middle East. Multiple commissioning contract awards in various locations including chemical facilities in Canada, China and Turkey and a major LNG regasification plant and pipeline in the US Gulf Coast. A FEED contract for ExxonMobil’s large-scale plastic waste advanced recycling program. A FEED contract for Grenian Hydrogen’s six green hydrogen production sites. Solid natural growth from long-term framework agreements with IECs in both Kazakhstan and Canada. Saudi Aramco's unveiling of 99 projects over the next three years signals an ambitious move towards enhancing oil and gas output and upgrading facilities. The 2024-26 program is set to focus on various segments, including oil, gas, and petrochemicals developments, pipeline projects, and civil and marine infrastructure schemes. Noteworthy initiatives like the Marjan Gas Lift program and Sulphur recovery upgrade projects are expected to drive significant growth in the industry. The highlight of the program is the Construction of the three world-scale liquids-to-chemicals complexes at existing refineries in Yanbu and Jubail, is seen as a substantial investment by Industry experts, after it has been under consideration for at least half a decade. To support these initiatives, significant material requirements have been outlined, such as carbon steel pipe, structural steel, transmission lines, switchgears, concrete, transformers, and cables.
