Johnathan|Christian release new single, 'Résistance, Mon Amie', in solidarity of LGBTQ+ Trans-Atlantic dark music duo, Johnathan|Christian, have released their new single, “Résistance, Mon Amie”. "The song is dedicated to advocating for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community", so the band says. The duo will donate the proceeds of the 3-track single to The Trevor Project, an American nonprofit organization that focuses on suicide prevention. Like many other Queer people my age and older, I can still remember when I saw the news about the tragic murder of Matthew Shepherd. As a young child in the midwest hearing that something like that could happen just 500 miles aways, was shocking. But it also made me to realize that the parts of me that I knew were different were things that could put me in danger. It took me 15 years to feel safe enough to even verbalize out loud who I truely am. I will never be silent again. Stories like Matthew Shepherd's are far too common in the news today. A resent study reported that LGBT people are nine times more likely than non-LGBT people to be the victims of violent hate crimes. The increase in hate crimes against Trans people specifically has gone up by 11% in just the past year, and by 186% in the last five years overall. I encourage you to actively support the LGBTQ+ communities in your area to strengthen the positive presence of Allies in the eyes of those that are feeling frightened and alone. Be the light. The humble journey of the Smiling Rainbow platform begins on February 19, 2019, with only one mission: SHARING PAIN MUST NOT BE EXPENSIVE. Over this period we have provided free counseling to thousands of individuals nationwide. Initially, our platform catered exclusively to members of the LGBTQ+ community. Over time, however, we began to receive inquiries and calls from individuals of various backgrounds. Based on our experience we have observed many trends in society, whereas few trends are ironic and on the other hand few are disturbing. In an attempt to spread awareness, we are going to share many such information in our #NoMotivationOnlyInformation campaign. The purpose of that series is simply to spread information in society instead of motivation.   No one desires to succumb to depression. When individuals find themselves immersed in the depths of despair, all they seek is steadfast support to prevent them from sinking. We aspire to be that unwavering support, by offering a new, comprehensive platform that provides free or affordable counseling for all without discrimination. We did our best for years to ensure  #FreeCounselingServiceForAll. Finally, we had to stop our free counseling service from August 2023 onwards due to a funding constraint. What can charities learn from tech startups? Over nearly the last decade, I've given hundreds of interviews about the work of our multi-award-winning charity, the Naz and Matt Foundation. Now, for the first time, I discuss in depth the power of purpose-driven storytelling and what charities and non-profits can learn from startups. I'd like to thank John Higginson and Higginson Strategy for inviting me to their podcast, Communicating Purpose with John Higginson. I've enjoyed the privilege of working as a CEO in both worlds - tech startups and the charity sector. In both areas, the power of telling a strong, unshakeable story behind your brand is what will connect to your audience's heart and mind. By understanding and really harnessing your 'why', you'll be able to: - Attract passionate supporters who truly believe in your cause. - Inspire donors to open their hearts (and donate). - Build a team of dedicated volunteers who share your vision and mission. - Create partnerships that amplify your impact. But here's the most important point: It's not just about WHAT you do. It's about WHY you do it. Tech startups get this. They don't just sell products; they sell visions of a better future. Charities can learn from this approach. Supporters need to understand why you do the work you do. Why it matters. And why they should care. 3 key takeaways from my chat with John: - Never be afraid of saying the important things that need to be said, but always be respectful along the way. - To get coverage of your work in the news, what you're doing and its story has to be packaged as something "new." The news won't cover you unless it's "new." - Build a strong brand. Your brand is more than a logo. It's the emotional connection people have with your cause. It's the people behind the work you do, including the CEO, team, and volunteers. It’s the stories of the people you have helped. Your brand is one of your most important assets. Invest in it. Remember: Every charity has a powerful story. Your job is to tell it in a way that moves people to action. Some good news as we head into the final weekend of Pride month: Funders for LGBTQ Issues has reported that Tides Foundation is the fifth-largest funder of LGBTQ issues in the United States! We're also the 4th-largest funder of LGBTQ issues by number of grants. Other takeaways from Funders for LGBTQ Issues' report: ➡️ Funding for trans communities from foundations increased by 34%, a result of strategic philanthropic organizing efforts that ramped up in response to a surge in legal and policy attacks on trans lives. ➡️ For the first time, a majority of grants from U.S. foundations were general operating support grants—vital for ensuring that LGBTQ organizations can function sustainably in the long term. ➡️ Funding to Black LGBTQ communities doubled from 7% to 14%, although total overall funding for LGBTQ communities of color decreased.
