I began celebrating my 3 years with Ready Player Me last week, and I can't help but feel excited about this week because IT'S THE CELEBRATION WEEK! Fun fact: I actually have two anniversaries with RPM, but let's save that story for another time or maybe in September 🐺. I call my June 10th anniversary "Banana Shirt Day." Why? Well, it all started when I had my first call with Haver and Kaspar to discuss a partnership. As soon as I joined the call, I heard Kaspar jokingly ask Haver, "What kind of banana shirt are you wearing?" The rest is history. This playful vibe, combined with smart, caring people hungry to make an impact, perfectly captures the environment here. Spoiler alert: Haver confirmed there were no bananas on the shirt 🍌😂. One thing that is part of our celebrations is my homemade potato salad 🥔. It's a tradition I can't quite pinpoint when it started, but the team seems to love it. My love for the team and making potato salad makes the hours of chopping worth it, and it's unreal how fast it disappears. Some may even say, "Next time, we need more." During this year's WinterWeek, I chopped and prepared 12kg of it, and with Summerfest around the corner, you will still have time to enjoy this tradition 😉. There is so much that goes into making Pink Lily what it is and it’s exciting to be part of the complexity of it all. 💖 Pink Lily: When you're not at work, what do you enjoy doing? ✨ Ainsley: I spend most of my spare time reading and traveling. What are you celebrating this week? There may be loads of things you're worrying about, that you want to get to, that you are holding onto from the last week or two. PUT IT DOWN! For a moment, let it go. Instead, think about what you are celebrating this week. Maybe it's starting the work week with clean pants! Maybe it's supporting your kids as they returned to school. Maybe it's holding a successful meeting or filling your fridge with healthy food options or getting to bed early last night. 📣 Fill in your celebration and then say it out loud or write it down. 🎆 Acknowledge it. ❓ Why? 💡 We're training our brain to see what's going well! It won't automatically do it on its own; our brains have evolved to look out for danger - to see worry, doubt, and red flags everywhere, whether they're real or not. But while we have a brain (and eyes, ears, limbs, etc.), we are not our brain, and we can redirect it. We can build this muscle with practice. We can highlight what's going well and use that to power ourselves forward. I'm doing it right now, as I celebrate writing this post and reaching out to this brilliant community. As a non-American, I approach Thanksgiving with a sense of humility, recognising its significance as a unifying moment for the U.S. While being mindful of authenticity, I feel that this celebration embodies transcendent values. At its core, Thanksgiving beckons us to reflect on gratitude for the positive moments of the year. Personally, I am thankful that my children are safe, healthy, and thriving amidst the uncertainties life brings. Some friends have come closer, others have moved away. This year has underscored the fragility of many assurances, and my heart goes out to those facing struggles and hardships. In my role as a sustainability professional, the past year has presented novel challenges, both externally and internally. The landscape is evolving, and the Chief Sustainability Officer role is entering a new era, defined by accelerating transparency and reporting requirements. Discussions around data governance and digital solutions have become pivotal. Simultaneously, the urgency to drive impactful change on significant global issues, such as climate, nature, and human rights, has never been more pronounced. As a leader, I've found immense reward in witnessing the power of connection and collaboration. Inside my company, the Henkel Sustainability Forum stands out—a gathering of over a hundred global sustainability champions, sharing ideas and building a network that transcends borders. This camaraderie led to further positive experiences and new collaborations. In the autumn, the Henkel Learning Festival sets a milestone, where a truly global community came together to learn and share online on a variety of issues centered around culture change and sustainability. Meeting and engaging with colleagues, also in North America, has been pivotal for my growth. Their passion and experiences have enriched my understanding and effectiveness. And the same applies to colleagues outside my own organization, offering the opportunity to foster new connections, learn from each other and share experiences for us all to grow. This is emphasizing the importance of human connection in fostering personal and professional development. Thanksgiving, at its essence, is a celebration of unity—uniting families, communities, and society. This unity, forged over time despite historical challenges, becomes particularly poignant in today's world marked by societal and political divides. As we navigate through conflicts and wars, this moment of humanity coming together is a reminder of our shared values and the strength derived from collective endeavours.
