When my colleague Joel Weber asked if I wanted to attend an event all about dogs at work, I didn't need much convincing. The daylong affair -- sponsored by WUF WORLD and Nationwide and featuring speakers from Mars Petcare, NBCUniversal, PrettyLitter and the Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) -- focused on efforts to "raise pet consciousness" among employers, citing research that shows the positive impact pets can have on employee mental health. I also got the chance to sit down with NBC's HR chief Vicki (Brinson) Williams (pictured below, getting a boop) and talk about the company's decision to "hire" an office dog at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, who battles midtown tourists, rides the elevator and sits through boring meetings just like his colleagues. Happy National Mutt Day! When I am looking at a law firm’s website, I am always pleasantly surprised when I see an adorable pooch on the team’s roster. A recent study done by Harvard Business Review found the following results regarding the Benefits of a Pet-Friendly Workplace: 🐾 In-Office Pets Enhance Workplace Well-being and Reduce Stress  🐾 Pet-Friendly Offices can be used as a Recruitment and Retention Tool 🐾 In-Office Pets Spark Collaboration and Better Communication through Friendship and Bonding Of course, it goes without saying that there are also challenges that accompany allowing four-legged coworkers, and not everyone may agree on the benefits.
