This week, we were honoured to host His Excellency, the #British Ambassador to #Zimbabwe, at our site in Wedza. He met our team, our customers, and visited the students and teachers at Kushinga Phikelela Polytechnic. InfraCo Africa (funded by the British government) invested in us at a critical stage of our development. With their support we are continuing to grow so that we can meet the #lastmiletransport needs of more small scale farmers and better provide #sharedmobility services to #ruralcommunities. The Ambassador met the hamba-driving health workers at Igava clinic, one of our original customers, Josephine (see second photograph on the left), as well as some of the farmers who had just received their Hambas that day! Green transport can unlock enormous potential in rural areas to address: ♀ #genderinequality 🏥 Improve #servicedelivery 🌽 Increase agricultural productivity 📈 Improve local economic trade. Thanks to support from InfraCo Africa’s parent company The Private Infrastructure Development Group, we were able to roll out the first cohort of students to undertake the EV Semi-skilled worker course. Having finished their 4-week long course in January, they were able to demonstrate their new skills in disassembly and reassembly of the Hamba to the Ambassador. Mobility for Africa is curating an EV ecosystem, including the development of green skills, for now, and for the future. #GreenTransportation #RuralDevelopment #Infrastructure #Education #emobilityrevolution

The resilience of Africa's e-mobility sector is truly being put to the test. In Ethiopia, as the birr lost over 88% of its value, many businesses responded by hiking prices or closing shop. But Yuma (ይልማ), Founder/CEO of Dodai, took a different path. Instead of raising prices, Yuma and his team launched special promotions, staying true to their mission of making e-mobility accessible. This bold move by Dodai is a testament to their commitment to building trust and loyalty, even in the face of economic challenges. Let’s hope their approach bears fruit in the long term. Meanwhile, in Kenya, after the recent withdrawal of the proposed Finance Bill 2024, which had several benefits for the e-mobility industry, The Court of Appeal ruled the entire Finance Act 2023 unconstitutional, a decision that bears significant implications for the e-mobility sector. The act had introduced incentives to promote the adoption of electric vehicles, but with its repeal, the future of sustainable transportation in Kenya is uncertain. The Electric Mobility Association of Kenya is urging the government to reinstate the necessary incentives and policies to support the e-mobility transition. Despite the challenges, the journey towards a greener Africa is still very much alive. This is an opportune time for concerned stakeholders, policymakers, industry players, EV advocates to unite efforts in pushing for reintroduction of these critical measures. With the dedication of stakeholders and investors, nothing can stop Africa from becoming a leader in the global e-mobility landscape.
