I just got back from New York where Friends of Be an Angel received Gold at The Anthem Awards for the category Fundraising: Partnership & Collaboration. This was for our project "Giving Power & Light", in which we formed a coalition of 42 NGOs to provide 1,715 generators totaling a market value of 2.2 million USD for hundreds of hospitals, orphanages, disadvantaged families, clinics and more. This was accomplished through a brilliant move by Anya Verkhovskaya, MBA, who made the decision to work directly with manufacturers of generators and purchase them at wholesale. This is important because the attacks caused nation-wide power outages, making auxiliary power sources the primary source of energy. High demand and low supply caused the prices of generators to explode, with price increases up to 40-60% above the value of the year prior - and this on top of the current inflation. According to my analysis, by providing this avenue for NGOs to avoid buying directly from EU and US stores, we have saved them approximately 1.2 million USD in costs. The Field Engineer is highlighting the UK's Gas Safety Week 2024. Don’t take chances - when you need a gas engineer, always check the official Gas Safe Register. We are sharing this post from Gas Safe Register "Gas Safe Register is the only official gas registration body of gas businesses and engineers in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. By law all gas businesses must be on the Gas Safe Register. A gas engineer can only be aligned to a registered business and be issued with a license to undertake gas work on behalf of a registered business if they hold a valid and current qualification. This evidence of competence relates only to matters of gas safety and is obtained by every engineer through a recognised route of training and assessment (much as the DVLA issues driving licences to those who have demonstrated their competence by passing a driving test). Registration is only given on the basis of the business having at least one gas safety qualified engineer. The Register is not a membership body or trade association. The Register (and all services associated with it) is operated on behalf of the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each region in which it operates– i.e. Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. It’s ironic how little we transfer learnings from one situation to another. In the aid industry, we moved past providing goods as it weakens resilience. We catalyze with cash and knowledge transfer. This approach has eluded the military minds of the world. Arms for Ukraine are good. Better is to invest directly in Ukraine’s defense industry. It is one of the most innovative and the most cost efficient defense bases in the world. It has excess capacity and just needs cash to the right places. We formed Mits Capital to bring investment to unlock Ukraine’s domestic capabilities. This week we will invest in six companies, five of which will enter our accelerator program this month.
