To keep the planet turning, let's keep the plastic journey going ♻️ On #GlobalRecyclingDay a question often asked is ‘why do we use plastic packs for prepared fruit?’ Our team at PrepWorld have extensively researched and evaluated various packaging formats. Our goal is to deliver great tasting, undamaged fruit from field to home, as fresh as possible, for as long as possible. We've found that plastic currently provides the best solution. As such, we use recycled PET (RPET) wherever possible, the amount of RPET can vary from pack to pack but we always aim is to use the maximum amount of RPET possible. Moreover our packs are 100% recyclable, so where facilities exist, we encourage the use of recycling facilities available locally to ensure the plastic goes back into the system, so that it can be used again to make the next pack as part of our circular economy. We know plastic has its problems, from consumer perceptions to limited recycling facilities, which is why we continue to monitor innovations and insights, so that we are ready to react to ever-changing opportunities. 🌍 The Future of Packaging: Why Biodegradable Solutions Matter In today’s rapidly changing world, businesses have a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to lead the charge towards sustainability. One crucial area where we can make a significant impact is packaging. Traditional packaging materials, such as plastics, have long been a staple in various industries. However, their environmental toll is undeniable. With millions of tons of plastic waste polluting our oceans and ecosystems, the need for alternative solutions has never been more pressing. Enter biodegradable packaging. Biodegradable packaging offers a sustainable alternative that breaks down naturally, reducing waste and minimizing our carbon footprint. These materials are designed to decompose in a way that’s friendly to the environment, often leaving behind no toxic residue. This shift not only supports the environment but also aligns with the increasing consumer demand for eco-friendly products. Adopting biodegradable packaging is more than just a trend—it’s a commitment to future generations. As companies, we must innovate and rethink our packaging strategies to foster a healthier planet. By investing in biodegradable solutions, we contribute to a circular economy, where waste is minimized, and resources are conserved. It’s time to embrace packaging that doesn’t cost the Earth. 🌱 Let’s lead by example and make sustainable choices that reflect our commitment to a greener future. Recent updates from Unilever, PepsiCo, and Colgate-Palmolive shed light on major corporations' ongoing challenges in meeting their packaging sustainability goals. This underscores broader concerns about Australia's 2025/2030 targets. Here are key takeaways from our latest blog: 1. Recycling Infrastructure Proposed Solution: Continued investment in recycling infrastructure, like the Recycling Modernisation Fund (RMF), to enhance Australia's processing and recycling capabilities. Overcoming Hurdles: Advocating for national recycling standards and fostering collaboration between different government levels to promote efficient recycling practices. 2. Consumer Participation Proposed Solution: Launch nationwide awareness campaigns to educate the public on correct recycling practices and promote using locally recycled materials. Overcoming Hurdles: Enhancing recycling guidelines, ensuring accessibility, and implementing incentive programs for consistent recycling behaviours. 3. Policy Gaps Proposed Solution: Aligning state regulations to form a cohesive national recycling and waste management framework to support sustainability goals. Overcoming Hurdles: Establishing a national body to coordinate recycling efforts, monitor progress, and facilitate state knowledge-sharing. Navigating the world of sustainable packaging can be challenging, especially with terms like recyclable, compostable, and biodegradable often used interchangeably. Understanding these differences is crucial for making informed choices that truly benefit our environment 🌍 🔄 Recyclable Packaging: Uses materials that can be processed and reused, reducing the need for new raw materials. However, this relies heavily on consumers correctly sorting and disposing of their recyclables. 🌱 Compostable Packaging: Breaks down naturally under specific conditions, typically in industrial composting facilities. While this reduces waste and produces nutrient-rich compost, it requires proper disposal environments which consumers may not always have access to. 🌿 Biodegradable Packaging: Decomposes through natural processes, but often takes longer and can release harmful toxins if not managed correctly. This type of packaging also faces challenges with consumer confusion and contamination in recycling streams. ♻️ Returnable Packaging: The standout solution. By opting for returnable packaging, brands can drastically reduce waste and emissions. Returnables are not just ZERØ waste but they can also cut down on the need for new products, saving resources and energy. At CLUBZERØ, we're passionate about offering returnable packaging solutions that help businesses, sporting events, restaurants and universities transition to sustainable practices. Our solutions not only enhance the consumer experience but also support brands through: 🌊 Waste Reduction: Less single-use packaging means less waste ending up in landfills or oceans. 🌳 Resource Efficiency: Decreases the need for raw materials and reduces carbon emissions associated with manufacturing 💚 Consumer Appeal: Provides a premium experience through thermal performance, durability and structural integrity Want to find out more?
