What’s that rhyme ‘Rain Rain go away come back another day’ might as well have started to build the ARK, what a week of it, anyway enough of the British weather. Last Saturday saw Richard and I ride our current longest bike ride, all 128miles of it, quite the ride and great preparation for what we have coming up at the end of the month. All in the aid of celebrating a certain person’s 50th (You know who you are, the guilty party) I could think of better ways to celebrate but riding round Belgium seems to be what we are doing, at least we can share a few beers made by those mad Belgium monks who see nothing more than about 15% proof like water. Lessons learnt from that ride and endurance sports as a whole, and defiantly pliable to your life and work, you have dark/bad moments call them what you will but they happen, you question why the hell you are doing these stupid things/the purpose of your job etc, and then a smiling face comes back for you with good will and cheer, it takes a little while but you gradually get back to some sort or semblance and back at it you are. You need these people, that person in your life, the genuine ones that have your back. This week’s message is ‘Sometimes you’re the HAMMER and sometimes you’re the NAIL’. But trust me a majority of the time you’ll be the HAMMER! Let’s hope we see some sun as all this rain is making Jack a dull boy. The Pedersen family recently took a trip to Spain to celebrate my son, Dillon, completing six years of Spanish immersion instruction in elementary school. Watching him check us into all the hotels, hail taxis, and guide us around the country was incredible. As a mom, I couldn't have been prouder! While the trip was filled with unforgettable moments, it wasn't without its challenges. Some attractions were closed, sold out, or even demolished (like the Barcelona stadium!). The entire taxi service was on strike for 24 hours at one point. These hiccups, though frustrating at the moment, led us to explore new paths and experience unexpected highlights in both Barcelona and Madrid. One of the most memorable detours was attending a SVNS World Rugby match – an exhilarating event I highly recommend adding to anyone's bucket list. We watched teams from around the world, including the New Zealand All Blacks, the US, Germany, Canada, and Ireland, play intense seven-minute halves with seven players each. Dillon's Spanish skills were essential again, especially when navigating a Spanish-only ticket site. I still don't know what terms and conditions I agreed to! We also discovered that Taylor Swift was performing in Madrid, so naturally, we walked to the stadium and bought a Swiftie sweatshirt for our niece. These spontaneous adventures became the highlights of our trip, filled with stories we'll cherish forever. Now back home, returning to our daily lives of managing portfolios and wealth, I realize how our trip mirrored the unpredictability of our work. Just like our well-planned trip to Spain, there are always unexpected challenges to navigate. The key is to stay focused on our long-term objectives and be flexible enough to adapt and capitalize on new opportunities.
