Hi All, My latest and final article of the semester has a look into the inaccessibility of youth soccer in the US. It is the most diverse sport in the world. FIFA has 211 member associations, everywhere you go in the world a football pitch will not be far away, apart from the US. Of course, there is some cultural reasoning behind this, but it goes further. Its status as a sport for the masses and the working class is not replicated in the US, where it is a sport of suburbia and privilege. The Paralympic Games are a celebration of human achievement and diversity. Yet, as we enter the final week, it’s disappointed to see barriers to accessibility and inclusion persist. One significant issue is the lack of widespread television coverage. While the International Paralympic Committee offers a free #YouTube channel, many countries have restricted access due to exclusive broadcasting rights. This is a missed opportunity to promote inclusivity and showcase the incredible talents of Paralympic athletes. How can we truly embrace accessibility and inclusion if we can’t even watch the competitions? Let’s advocate for more equitable broadcasting practices and ensure that everyone has the chance to witness these inspiring events." #Paralympics #Accessibility #Inclusion #Sports #Equity https://lnkd.in/dAHYj6RW

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) once again proved why it’s the premier league for women’s soccer, with 57 players representing their countries at the Paris 2024 Olympics—more than any other league in the world. Of those, 16 out of the 18 players on the USWNT roster who clinched the gold medal are from the NWSL. This tournament wasn’t just a competition but an introduction to the new superstars redefining the sport. The Paris 2024 Olympics saw a significant investment from fans and corporations, underscoring the growing interest and support for women's soccer. Fans, on average, spent over $10,000 to travel to Paris and witness these incredible athletes battle it out for gold. Meanwhile, corporations invested six figures in hospitality packages to be part of the action. But here’s the reality: Soccer fans don’t need to spend tens of thousands of dollars to see the world's best women’s soccer players. Corporations don’t need to shell out six figures for hospitality packages; sponsors don’t have to wait every 2-4 years to support the sport. These SAME players are right here, in the U.S., competing every weekend in the NWSL. Fans can watch these world-class athletes play up close and personal, at the highest level, week in and week out, for a fraction of the cost. The NWSL and its Clubs offer an affordable way to support and enjoy women's soccer. And let's not forget—our very own North Carolina Courage made history as the first professional women's soccer team to bring home all three Olympic medals: gold, silver, and bronze! 🥇🥈🥉 The players the world lined up to see are right in our backyards, playing in the most competitive league in the history of women’s soccer. We have the incredible privilege of watching them live, whenever we want, at an affordable price. So, all in honesty, what are you waiting for? What am I missing here? Let’s fill those stands across the League and show our support for the best in the world! #NWSL #WePlayHere #WomensSoccer #Paris2024 #Olympics #NorthCarolinaCourage #SupportLocal #HistoryMakers
