Picking our food is done with kids in mind- what they like to eat, what they need, and what they can prepare for themselves. We always want to include food kids WANT to eat, including fun snacks like Bits and Bites or a yummy pack of cookies. Everybody deserves a sweet treat! When discussing food insecurity it is important to remember: we want children to be FED! A child needs to eat, even if: - they don't have a parent present to cook for them - they don't have access to many cooking tools - they don't have an oven or microwave - they are a picky eater Discussions of health are important, but ensuring children get to eat is the main priority. Ensuring fresh fruit and vegetables in a key component for both or summer and school year programs to help children get the vitamins they need.
