Neuroservices-Alliance supports #RareDiseaseDay! In 2024, more than 300 million people worldwide live with a rare disease. Almost half of these diseases are neurological, and 90% of rare childhood disorders have major neurological effects. Neuroservices-Alliance is committed to identifying partners interested in accelerating the success rate of preclinical research in this challenging space by pursuing electrophysiology in novel models, e.g., iPSC-derived neurons and transgenic models. If you are currently developing molecule targeting rare neurological disorders, reach out to contact@neuroservices-alliance.com to discuss how we can help advance your research. #rarediseaseday2024 #CNSresearch #electrophysiology #drugdiscovery #CNSdrugdiscovery

A new discovery in brain's research unveils the function of a previously little-understood brain junction involving oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs). These cells, integral in forming the protective myelin sheath around nerve cells, have been found to form unique synapses with neurons, influencing myelin production. This discovery could have significant implications for treating a range of conditions from multiple sclerosis to Alzheimer’s disease and even glioma. The study suggests that manipulating these neuron-OPC synapses could offer new methods for disease intervention, particularly in demyelinating disorders. This is a really interesting read. TL:DR COVID-19 is able to infect dopamine neurons, which may be contributing to long COVID symptoms (such as brain fog and depression). The infected neurons go into a state where they don't grow or reproduce. It will be interesting to see if this causes long term damage that increases the chances of patients later developing neurodegenerative diseases connected to the dopamine pathway, such as Parkinson's Disease, the rates of which are already on the rise due to other factors.

Absolutely unconscionable that this is where we are at in our response. Enough journal article writing. We have long known of CNS reservoir persistence, including the work of Dr. Daniel Chertow in December, 2021. He observed persistence in the basal ganglia, to which the substantia nigra belongs. So, this comes as no surprise. We have long known that every cell type that constitutes the CNS reservoir of those living with HIV is productively infected by SARS-Cov-2: perivascular macrophages, the choroid plexus, pericytes, astrocytes, and microglia. The CNS reservoir is expanding on a daily basis relying upon the same mechanism observed in HIV, the Tunneling Nanotube, implicated by Ana Pepe in 2022. Our intellectual capital’s immune competence and cognition is being destroyed on a daily basis, for which there will be no recovery. Stop writing. Take action. Disgusting and depraved.

SPHERE Coaching - Glial Cells Reprogrammed to Neurons for Brain Repair Researchers have discovered how glial cells can be reprogrammed into neurons through epigenetic modifications, offering hope for treating neurological disorders. This reprogramming involves complex molecular mechanisms, including the transcription factor Neurogenin2 and the newly identified protein YingYang1, which opens chromatin for reprogramming. The study reveals how coordinated epigenome changes drive this process, potentially leading to new therapies for brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. #BeAbrainOwner https://vist.ly/3cxcp

📢 Hot off the press in Wiley #neuroprotection: Neuroprotective effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation on #Alzheimer's disease: Undetermined therapeutic protocols and mechanisms Key points - Stimulus frequency, pattern of stimulation, stimulus intensity, and the configuration of the stimulus coil are important factors in the repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (#rTMS) treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). - Multisite high-frequency (HF)-rTMS and HF-r#TMS applied over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, precuneus, or cerebellum are promising protocols in AD therapy. - Novel intermittent transcranial magnetic stimulation treatments for #AD are cost-effective and show long-lasting effects. - Interacting mechanisms result in rTMS's improvement of AD cognition, including modulation of brain network, as well as cellular and molecular reactions. - This review provides theoretical and practical evidence for the future clinical application and scientific research of rTMS in AD. https://lnkd.in/dc8PvJ-M
