The effects of climate change are largely felt through water. Flooding, multi-year droughts, and saltwater intrusion seriously threaten the availability of safe water. Women and girls are hit particularly hard as they are responsible for securing water and food. At the same time women continue to have less access to resources and decision making than men. For Simavi managing Director Dieneke van der Wijk there is no doubt: empowering women and girls to take ownership of the process of adapting to the impacts of climate change is crucial. Read more about why Simavi follows the locally-led adaptation principles: https://lnkd.in/etrJXC5e With this message, Simavi will attend the Stockholm World Water Week (25-29 August 2024), where we will endorse the role of women in a climate just society and how we can strengthen their voice and agency. On 28 August Sandra van Soelen will present a session at the Netherlands Pavilion (4:01) together with Oxfam Novib on women at the forefront of water and locally led climate action. It was good to see a dedicated space for discussions about water at the recent COP28 but in climate action, water’s essential role has too often been often overlooked. Importantly we need to ensure that our climate response has at its heart a feminist approach to water. Here are five key elements of fair and feminist water action.

Lack of #policies or #government-sponsored benefits and insufficient #funding are the two leading barriers preventing small and medium enterprises (#SMEs) from taking #climate action: SME Climate Hub 2024 survey by We Mean Business Coalition — a global nonprofit coalition that works with the world’s most influential businesses to act on climate change. #climatechange #environment #carbonemissions María Mendiluce Read more:

I am motivated by #Hope of a better, fairer, peaceful, safer, equal and healthier #future – for our #people and our #MotherEarth.
The evidence is clear: #climatefinance is not going to the most climate-vulnerable countries and populations. This is particularly troubling as #ClimateChange is already affecting the lives and livelihoods of #communities in #climate-vulnerable countries, especially in fragile states. By 2030, 2.2 billion people will live in fragile states, which will represent 26% of the total world population. The #GCF Board must now prioritize adaptation funding to the most climate-vulnerable countries and fragile states during this crucial phase of the #Fund. Government policies must now protect #communities that are already overburdened by climate related disasters and under-investment. Without #investment, the most climate-vulnerable and fragile countries have little #Hope of adapting to the potentially devastating effects of climate change already being felt. Investing in adaptation programming in climate-vulnerable fragile states now will increase the ability of these communities to weather the #climate threats they will inevitably face. The Green Climate Fund has a critical role to play in helping climate-vulnerable countries and fragile states adapt to climate change, and must step up to meet this moment.#ClimateFund #ClimateInvestment United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) United Nations The World Bank UN Environment Programme IPCC UN Sustainable Development Group Mafalda Duarte Inger Andersen Greenpeace International António Guterres

Join Our Webinar: "Climate Change and Gender-Based Violence: A Hidden Crisis" Hello everyone. Welcome back to the weekly webinar series hosted by Eco-Edu Outreach. This week, we will be hearing from OMLAS Champion 2024, Mr. Myat Thura Hein, who will be presenting on the topic of "Climate Change and Gender-Based Violence: A Hidden Crisis". Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, and its impacts on communities are far-reaching and devastating. Among several issues, few notice that climate change also exacerbates gender-based violence (GBV). Join our webinar to explore the intersectionality of climate change and GBV, and learn about strategies for addressing GBV in the context of climate change. What to Expect: Intersectionality of climate change and GBV Impacts of climate change on women and girls Strategies for addressing GBV in the context of climate change Share with Your Network: Help us spread the word about this critical issue and invite your friends and colleagues to join the webinar! Climate change affects everyone, but not equally. Vulnerable communities, often those least responsible for carbon emissions, bear the brunt of its impacts⚖ Climate justice means recognizing these inequalities and ensuring that solutions are fair and inclusive. It’s about more than reducing emissions; it's about addressing the systemic inequities that make some populations more susceptible to climate impacts. At Center for Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCCAM) - University of Embu, we are committed to advancing climate justice by ensuring equitable access to resources, supporting vulnerable communities, and advocating for policies that uplift those most affected. Together, we can create a more just, resilient world. 💚 Murithi Antony Nicholas Ngece Charity Chepkoech Justine M Nyaga RAMADHAN ATIBO UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre Climate Justice Alliance Pan African Climate Justice Alliance PACJA Prof. Kariuki Muigua Ph.D,FCIArb,Ch.Arb,OGW #ClimateJustice #Equity #SustainableFuture #EnvironmentalJustice #FairClimateAction

“The sector’s flexibility to be risk-seeking is a privilege that most other private sectors do not have, and the risk itself is marginal compared to the cost of inaction. A recent study showed that not taking climate action will result in damages to infrastructure, property, agriculture, and human health that could amount to USD 3.1 trillion per year”. 🗺️ The combined triple threat of poverty, climate change, and environmental degradation are disproportionately impacting people in poverty around the world. We need systems change, which means strengthening, coordinated action between governments, communities, civil society, science, and the private sector, driven forward by ambitious multilateral agreements. That’s why Practical Action is attending the United Nations Environment Assembly next week, to shine a light on solutions that can turn ambitions, such as protecting 30% of ecosystems by 2030, into action. Tackling biodiversity loss and pollution is an opportunity to support people to adapt, restore local environments, and build thriving lives and livelihoods that work with natural resources and help to reverse environmental degradation. Together, we're working with the world's most vulnerable and marginalised communities who are already leading the way: ➡️ Adapt to climate change ➡️ Regenerating depleted soils into productive farms, ➡️ Conserve biodiversity ➡️ Build resilience in rapidly urbanising areas We need to accelerate what works to bring about big change and expect the conference to deliver a bold plan for inclusive environmental action that works for people and the planet. Join us at #UNEA-6 (26 February to 1 March 2024) to discuss how to urgently scale up practical action or keep following to hear more.
