Often a leader thinks setting the example for others is by sacrificing their wellbeing for others. Sacrificing sleep for longer work hours. Fast forward a few months and they're sick, stressed and short tempered. That's not good or effective leadership. But showing up rested and recharged so that others can depend on you when they need guidance? That's why sleep should be a non negotiable 💡
Simon Sinek's The Optimism Company As someone who does not get much sleep, I can't agree more. As you and other great leadership coaches have written extensively, becoming an impactful leader requires so much more from us, assuming of course we get a good sleep. True leadership demands mastering the self, forging authentic connections, casting an inspiring vision, navigating with unwavering principles, and courageously driving transformation. This lifelong journey yields profound rewards, empowering both individuals and communities. https://career-amplifier.ck.page/newsletter
Agreed! Can’t help others be at your best, unless you are at your best! Rest, sleep being a type of rest, is important!
This is something I need to get better at. Been burning the candle at both ends for a looooong time. There is always room to become a better leader.
I can tell a huge difference when I get enough sleep and when I don’t.
Great advice Simon ... In order to also get quality of sleep I would recommend gping through short "medidation" capsules of 20-30 min before going to sleep or listening to music that uses bilateral stimulation. Thanks again for sharing !
Sleep is so important for leaders and all. Burnt out, depression, autism, it doesn’t matter…sleep will greatly effect everyone’s ability to perform. You brain biologically removes waste while you sleep. Not enough sleep is similar to cholesterol for your heart! It gums everything up.
