In the interconnected world of telecommunications, cybersecurity is not just a technical requirement but a fundamental responsibility. With cyberattacks on the rise, the need for awareness and proactive defence has never been more critical. In 2023 alone, global cybercrime costs are projected to reach $8 trillion, and by 2025, this figure is expected to soar to $10.5 trillion annually. For telecommunications specifically, data breaches and service disruptions can have cascading effects on businesses and communities, compromising millions of users. Reports show that 43% of telecom companies experienced a DNS attack in the past year, leading to significant financial losses and service interruptions. It’s crucial for organisations and individuals alike to recognize that preventative cybersecurity is our first line of defence. The headlines are impossible to ignore: 1 billion records stolen in 2024 - so far… But behind the staggering numbers are the same businesses, customers, and mistakes. Every breach is a reminder that the old way of thinking—treating cyber security as an afterthought—has failed. It’s time to stop viewing security as a “necessary evil” and start seeing it for what it really is: the foundation of trust. Too many businesses still believe they’re immune, that breaches happen to someone else, the ‘big guys’ like AT&T or Change Healthcare. But here’s the truth: you’re never too small to be a target, and no industry is too niche to be at risk. Trust isn’t just something you build with your customers; it’s something you protect, every single day. At F12, we don’t do cyber security as a bolt-on solution. It’s baked into everything we do, because we know that in today’s world, trust and security are one and the same. We’re not just helping businesses respond to threats — we’re helping them prevent the next breach. So here’s the question: when will businesses stop treating security like an afterthought and start treating it as the core of their survival? #CyberSecurity #RedefiningSecurity #TrustAndSecurity #BusinessResilience #F12Net #EssentialBusiness #LeadTheChange

2024’s Billion-Record Data Breach Crisis: What It Means for Your Business Another year, another breach — but this time, it’s on a scale we’ve never seen before. Over one billion records stolen in 2024, impacting businesses, customers, and entire industries. We’re witnessing what happens when even the most established companies lose sight of what truly matters: trust. It’s easy to assume these breaches are a “big company” problem, but the reality is that no business is immune. Whether you’re handling medical records, financial data, or client communications, your customers trust you with their most personal information. And in today’s world, trust is fragile. At F12.net we understand that the stakes are high — not just for big players like AT&T or Change Healthcare, but for every business, especially those essential to Canada’s economy. Breaches don’t just steal data; they steal confidence, and once that’s gone, it’s incredibly hard to win back. That’s why we’re committed to working with industry leaders like WatchGuard Technologies and Blackpoint Cyber to help businesses stay ahead of the threats. Security can’t be an afterthought — it has to be part of the core strategy. No business should ever have to tell its customers: “We didn’t see this coming.” Let’s stop thinking of cyber security as a burden and start seeing it as an opportunity to show our customers that their trust is well-placed. Is your business ready to earn that trust? https://lnkd.in/gSEKX7Gm #CyberSecurity #DataBreach #CustomerTrust #WatchGuard #BlackpointCyber #F12Net #BusinessSecurity #CyberResilience #EssentialBusiness #ProactiveSecurity

Most likely YOUR very personal data, like medical and/or social security number, was compromised this year. In one instance (possibly more) MFA wasn't used when it should have been. Could it have prevented the breach? Most likely, yes. What does this mean for you and your business? • At the very least, let this be your sign to use MFA whenever possible and make it mandatory for all staff. • Invest in cybersecurity awareness training. • Have plan for when you experience a data breach. Roughly half of all breaches happen to businesses under 1,000 employees. Put a freeze on your credit with the major bureaus. Here's info on how to do that: https://lnkd.in/emC9j4es https://lnkd.in/ea8KTkAK

The average cost of a data breach in the UK has soared to £3.58m from March 2023 to February 2024, up 5% compared with the previous 12-month period and reversing a declining trend, with financial services organisations seeing the costliest incidents, followed by professional services and technology, all averaging £5.4m and over. This data, contained in the 19th annual IBM Cost of a data breach report, reveals much about how disruptive cyber attacks are becoming, and how much collateral damage they are causing, with much of the cost increases attributable to lost business, and post-breach customer and third-party responses.
