Argentina to Acquire 24 Surplus F-16 Fighter Jets from Denmark Argentina has signed an agreement to buy 24 surplus F-16 fighter jets from Denmark. Denmark is replacing its F-16 fleet with new F-35 jets, both of which are made by the American company Lockheed Martin. Argentine Defense Minister Luis Petri and his Danish counterpart Troels Lund Poulsen signed a letter of intent for the sale in Buenos Aires on March 26. The U.S. ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley, attended the event. “Denmark is donating 19 F-16 jets to Ukraine, and the government has decided to sell 24 Danish F-16 jets to Argentina,” Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement, describing the transaction as a “possible sale.” Read: https://lnkd.in/dwkXxsWt Aviation Guide Asociación Mujeres en Aviación Argentina #aviationguide #explore #aviationnews #Argentina #F16 #FighterJets #Denmark #MilitaryAircraft #Defense #Aviation #Surplus #AircraftDeal #InternationalRelations #DefenseAcquisition #AirForce #MilitaryEquipment #ArmedForces #Security #DefenseIndustry #MilitaryTechnology #DefenseProcurement #StrategicPartnership #NationalSecurity

Ruben Brekelmans, #Dutch Defence Minister, has stated that F-16 fighter jets from the #Netherlands will arrive in #Ukraine "in the near future". Source: #Brekelmans in a comment to UKRINFORM in The Hague, reports European Pravda Details: The official stated that the F-16s will come shortly and that the Netherlands is working hard to make this happen as soon as possible. However, he did not provide any details. He also did not specify how many fighters will be transferred in the near future, "because this is also valuable information for Russia". According to Brekelmans, all arms transfers should be safe and reliable. Quote: "The argument is not that I don't want to inform the public; rather, I want to inform everyone as much as possible. However, we know that the F-16 is also a target for Russia, and sharing data, such as the exact day and time, will be extremely significant intelligence to the Russian leadership. And we don't want them to be more informed than they are now. I believe that what Ukrainian pilots are doing now is just fantastic. Dutch pilots typically require many years, sometimes more than five years, to learn the F-16, which is a complex system. Ukrainian pilots now complete it in a year and a half. So this is just fantastic." Background: Brekelmans’s predecessor, Kajsa Ollongren, said in early July that the Netherlands would soon begin supplying Ukraine with the first of 24 promised F-16 jets. On 10 July, the leaders of the United States, Denmark and the Netherlands, who head the fighter jet coalition, announced that Ukraine will receive its first F-16s this summer. According to Bloomberg, Ukraine is expecting to receive six F-16 fighters from its Western partners this summer and a total of up to 20 aircraft by the end of 2024. https://lnkd.in/d7jMfS-N

On August 27, two Mitsubishi F-2 fighter jets from the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) made a brief stopover at Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore, en route to India. Their destination: the Indian Air Force’s first-ever multilateral Exercise Tarang Shakti. Exercise Tarang Shakti is a multi-phase exercise aimed at enhancing interoperability among participating forces. The first phase, held at Sulur Air Base in Tamil Nadu from August 6 to 16, included France, Germany, Spain, and the UK. The second phase is set to take place at Jodhpur Air Base in Rajasthan from August 29 to September 14, featuring forces from Australia, Bangladesh, Greece, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, and the USA. The Mitsubishi F-2 is a multirole fighter derived from the General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, and manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Lockheed Martin for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, with a 60/40 split in manufacturing between Japan and the United States. The basis of the F-2’s design is the F-16 Agile Falcon, an unsuccessful offer by General Dynamics to provide a low-cost alternative for the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition. Production started in 1996 and the first aircraft entered service in 2000. The F-2 is nicknamed “Viper Zero”, a reference to the F-16’s unofficial nickname of “Viper” and the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. #military #defense #defence #militaryleak https://lnkd.in/gUUGN5wT

UKRAINE FINALLY RECEIVES DESPERATELY NEEDED F-16 FIGHTER JETS. President Volodymyr Zelensky’s declation that ‘F-16 fighter jets will bring a just and lasting peace closer’ may be over optimistic but it is a measure of the combat power of these state of the art fourth generation fighter jets. The first batch arrive at a time when Russian troops have been making slow incremental gains across the Kharkiv front. Thankfully a major breakthrough to Ukraine’s second largest city has failed to materialise but the Russian offensive in the north-east has put immense pressure across the rest of Ukraine’s defensive positions. While welcome, the first batch consists of only six aircraft and has been delivered only after agonising delays, dithering and political indecision in western capitals, particularly Washington with Britain credited with showing international leadership in strongly pressing the White House to finally act. With more aircraft promised it remains to be seen to what extent the F-16s will be equipped with the latest military and war winning stand-off Air to Air and Air to Ground hardware to conduct both offensive and defensive operations. As well as helping to stabilise the north-east front, a critical role for the aircraft will be to provide air defence cover to limit the ongoing Russian onslaught on Ukrainian energy, logistics and transport systems. A winter without gas or electricity must be an horrific prospect for a civilian population which has already suffered and sacrificed so much. The arrival and promise of more F-16s is, therefore, welcome but it is not, in itself, a game changer. The war with Russia will not be won unless the West finally finds its collective courage and sends Ukraine what it desperately needs to halt the brutal onslaught from the East. As a senior military figure has stated - THE UKRAINIANS ARE NOT ONLY FIGHTING FOR UKRAINE, THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR EUROPE AND FOR US IN GREAT BRITAIN.

Exciting developments in China's military aviation! My latest article on the Australian Outlook by the Australian Institute of International Affairs dives into the fascinating world of China's J-10C Fighters and their strategic moves in the global arms market. The J-10C, also known as the "Vigorous Dragon," recently made headlines at prestigious air shows in the Middle East, showcasing its impressive capabilities and signalling China's entry as a major player in international arms sales. Despite its advanced features and agile performance, questions linger about its marketability compared to Western counterparts. However, recent upgrades, including a powerful Chinese WS-10B Taihang engine, highlight China's growing capacity for advanced engineering. China's deliberate shift from buyer to supplier is evident in its mesmerising displays at events like the Dubai Airshow, where the August 1st Aerobatics Team wowed audiences and potential buyers alike. This move comes as China aims to challenge traditional arms exporters by offering affordable yet advanced weaponry without stringent political conditions. The J-10C's success in Pakistan and growing interest from Middle Eastern nations like Egypt and Saudi Arabia underscore its appeal and China's diplomatic finesse. Read the full article for insights into China's strategic manoeuvres and the Vigorous Dragon's journey to become a formidable force in the global arms market. #ChinaMilitary #J10CFighters #GlobalArmsMarket #DubaiAirshow #StrategicManeuvers #VigorousDragon #MilitaryAviation #DefenseIndustry #Geopolitics #ChinaDiplomacy #InternationalRelations #AerospaceTechnology #china #taiwan #crossstrait #diplomacy #defence #prc #strategiccompetition Views expressed are my own and not representative of any others.

Turkey has successfully completed the initial flight of its 4.5-generation fighter jet, Kaan, as of yesterday. This project, known as TFX, which started a bit later than South Korea's KFX, has been technically supported by the UK's BAE Systems. Interestingly, just a few days ago, the Ukrainian government announced its intention to adopt the Kaan and the possibility of deploying it to the front lines, likely after being informed of the development schedule, including the date of the initial flight. Turkey has announced plans to replace its aging fleet of fighter jets with this new model, which is estimated to be about 48 F-4Es currently in operation by the Turkish Air Force. These aircraft have undergone an upgrade (called, 'F-4 Terminator 2020'), but aside from the F-4, there seem to be no other aircraft slated for retirement. Additionally, Turkey has received approval from the United States to procure F-16 block 70 ("V" configuration), with 40 units to be directly purchased and 79 to be upgraded using kits for the older F-16Cs. This deal was proposed during the time Turkey was blocking Finland and Sweden's NATO membership, apparently as a condition for not opposing the new memberships. Turkey is also attempting to purchase around 40 units of the EF-2000 Eurofighter Typhoon from the Eurofighter Consortium. If such deals go through, they seem likely to be sold under the clear condition of not causing discord within NATO in the future. This illustrates the complexity of the defense industry, where politics can have a more significant impact on arms deals than the quality of the products themselves.
