What do you think truly matters when it comes to being a mother? Being patient? Fantastic with time management? Loving? Successful at multi-tasking? Able to understand my child and be that fun or cool parent? All the above? As a mother, I wanted to have it all. A well-fed, clean and tidy child who was loving, thoughtful, intelligent, respectful, creative, resourceful....Yes, I said 'wanted' because how unfair is it to pile my expectations on a child who has to learn to be a teen, then an adult whilst manoeuvring the stressful culture we live in?! So I said 'wanted' because I've come to realise and I'm still learning to look inward at myself as a parent first, understand where I'm coming from and being more conscious with my thoughts, words and actions. I'm not saying it's easy but my mantra is "better than yesterday". I've come to accept that it'll be a lifelong journey of better parenting for me. Facing ourselves is not easy. There are so many things that I have suppressed and hidden away over the years. By working with a coach, daily mindful practices and a family whom I love, the journey is so beautiful, awakening and insightful. That's why I'm invested in supporting women in their journey inward.
